Justin Your comment "CBA better make sure not to repeat the same mistake". Ha Ha. With the Usual Suspects still in charge of selection and coaching, history will repeat for sure. Look at next weeks junior tournaments in Thailand and Indonesia, no players from china but ROW well represented. Arrogance or lack of foresight!!
Watch this interesting video, fully subtitled (cc), an open review at the end of stage 3 by the boss There are more of such reviews, given at the end of each stage, just look at Liu Guoliang Speech or Review. The competitive atmosphere there is so high, ingrained as a culture, even an Olympic champion must strive and engage earnestly! It'll be great if the CBA has the luxury to field 10 or 12 high class, quality singles for such intense internal competition, it may still be long to go to achieve such state. P.S. Yes, it's a criteria that the NT coach should be a former Olympic Champion and/or World Champion Someone creates an En blog focusing on CN TT here.
Wow the selection process for TT is fantastic. I am aware of Lin who emerged at 15 years old as a promising junior . If I am not mistaken he was the WJC. The way juniors from TT emerge to take over from the seniors is a great credit to them. CBA should make a start to follow this system as it will benefit badminton a lot. Thanks Kelana for sharing. Greatly appreciated.
Right, for CBA, the transition from London Olympics to Rio Olympics wasn't smooth; in fact, made a mess by emotional and personal issues. Let's hope CBA and Li Yongbo do it right this time for the Tokyo Olympics (or his head will be on the chopping board, figuratively speaking).
Looks like CBA is trying really hard to push Zheng Siwei.... XD No.1 is not enough, they want to use him in MD as well and have been using the last few tournaments to try to match him with different players. This Fu Haifeng/Zheng Siwei partnership looks good but it can't be long-term because FHF should be retiring soon. I wouldn't be surprised if they match Zheng with Zhang Nan to put the bast male doubles players together... However, i'm not sure this tactic of putting Zheng in XD and MD will work, because it is clear that doing double-duty is making him tired. He crashed out early in All-England + lost India final, and although luckily CHN also have Lu/Huang in the wings for XD, Zheng/Chen are still definitely the better pairing...
I tend to agree with you, Zheng Siwei, and Chen Qingchen as well, are still young and they have a lot more to achieve in their career.Pushing them so hard, and I suspect the two are agreeable to it, may be counterproductive and risky, not only physically stretching them to the limit but also increasing the risk of injury. Zhang Nan at least waited until he has won the WC and OG before he asked to take on double duty in XD and MD. It's safer and much better to let the two young guns develop their game to the highest level and garnering the accolades they are capable of before allowing them to take up two disciplines simultaneously.
Yes, i am not sure whats the point of putting siwei in the MD when there is still Li Liu & Chai Hong. its just putting the pressure on the young shoulders and what for. I mean zhangnan is good but with fuhaifeng they have 1 or 2 SS titles (only) and a (flukey) olympic win. will zheng siwei be better than zhangnan?
I hope CBA will pair Bao Yixin with a better player. Maybe Bao Yixin/Chen Qingchen will be a good one or pairing back Bao with Tang Yuanting. A good player like Bao Yixin has been wasted by CBA. She lost her chance to go to Olympic because of favoritism to old Yu Yang.
Exactly. Heads should roll for wasting exceptional talents like Bao Yixin, Tang Yuanting, and others as well.
Yu Yang selection was the biggest travesty and joke of a selection. It was like she had a gun pointed at LYB to select her. Shameless
All this mixing and matching, combining and recombining, and shuffling and reshuffling in Team CHN's doubles, WD, MD and XD, have better be more or less finalised or firmed up within a year's time from now. Hope CBA don't make the same mistake of doing it wrongly and dragging it for too long. It takes considerable time to develop mutual rapport and understanding between the doubles partners before they clicked as a pair, making frequent changes at short intervals is counterproductive, even damaging.
Fully agree! Let's all be patient and have self-refrain in further commenting upon these pairing issues... just give it time and see... even an ass won't hit the stone twice! For if so, then no remedy, those who are responsible must be kicked out! [Justin, what's the proper English saying for this? To not repeat the same mistake]
Don't make the same mistake twice (don't repeat the same mistake, as you've said) or don't let history repeat itself ? Learn from experience ? Or are you talking about Chinese idioms ? 重蹈复辙 as explained here http://www.purplepanda.com.au/Idiom/same-road-ruin.aspx
Thanks for the link cool to have, actually I asked about the right Eng proverb for "even an ass won't hit the stone twice!"
Wow! LYB is stepping down. The new team may be in before the Surdirman Cup. http://sports.sina.com.cn/others/badmin/2017-04-11/doc-ifyecezv3001478.shtml
It's official. Li YongBo will relinquish his titles as the head coach of the Chinese Badminton Team and the Deputy Director of the Ping Pong and Badminton Center. He will join the soon to be found Expert Committee of the Chinese Olympics Committee. A few legendary coaches of other sports will also join that Expert Committee. Li YongBo had definitely left his mark in the history of badminton. http://sports.qq.com/a/20170411/016628.htm?_t_t_t=0.7052139462903142
