9th International MBA Championship bolstered by global support

The recent 9th International MBA Championship 2017 proved to be a massive success with new milestones reached with the help and support of sponsors Malaysia Major Events and Majlis Perbandaran Port Dickson and equipment sponsors ACC and Protech alongside TYT.

A total of 650 participants competed at the various categories designated, with competitors from Maldives and France placing their flags for the first time amongst returning shuttlers from 19 other countries across the globe including Singapore, Indonesia, Philippines, India, South Korea, China, Hong Kong, England and many more.

The three day event, which was held at the Michael Badminton Academy in Port Dickson from July 28-30, saw a strong foreign contingent of 215 players present, proving that the event is gaining popularity worldwide. With a host of categories to choose from, the event featured participants from all walks of life who came together to make it a truly memorable experience.

MBA Event Director, Lee Pui Yee, who was particularly thrilled with the increase in the number of international participants, said, “It’s always been our goal to make this event globally recognized. We hope that next year’s championship will be even bigger and better.”

Dr Aziff from Batu Pahat, who played his daughters in the age group event, was all smiles when asked about the tournament. “It’s good because it helps them gain valuable experience. I have entered both, my girls in the Under-12 category and win or lose, they will be winners.”

His sentiments were echoed by Isabelle and Sabrina from France who decided they could not miss the opportunity as they are badminton enthusiasts. “We have been playing as a pair for 30 years and we are amazed at the size of the competition. There are so many players and the people are so kind and friendly,” said Sabrina who plays actively for a club side in Marseille with partner Isabelle.

A total of RM20,050 worth of cash and prizes were handed out to winning participants and competitive fun aside, there was also a Fruit Festival where in which the attendees were treated to an “all you can eat” fruit buffet at a very affordable price.
