Thanks. She wrote it also on her twitter. In term of prestige, it could be debatable. If we talk about prestige, somehow it partly related with the history. It's undeniable that AE is the most prestigious tournament in the past, being the oldest tournament giving such a big proud for the champion at that time, some people still think it's the same prestige that AE still have. In current era, I think SSF have more valuable factors than AE. The fact that only 8 best players/pairs joining, is such a privilege for the participant. Having a champion here and then being World No.1 at the year end is also expected by anyone.
I still remember the Grand Prix Final (and World Cup) from the 80s and 90s. Unfortunately I cannot remember who won. But I'll always remember who won the All England. Same fate for the SSF I think, especially now that they are renaming and revamping the whole system again
not even close. if there was a grand slam the ae would be one of them. there's a quota of 2 per country, so some of the best are left out.
So, are you saying that AE would be still more prestigious than SSF? We wouldn't think about "any IF" situation, the fact in present time. The best which left out wouldn't have their privilege anymore to play of course, including the withdrawn players.
Well, if you say and compare like that, then WorldChampionship is for the stupid when its the tournament where most people play. The fact is AllEngland is more prestigious than WC and SSF. In Fact i think WC is the worst, it giveth no prize money.
Off course the original question by @Metaphysician is limited to Superseries Premier level, no more than that. Again, it's debatable as I said above and it would bring a non-stop answer and reply for so long pages. My statements is about two SSP tournaments.
To me, the All England is more memorable. You have the honour of being a champion of the oldest badminton tournament ever. Prestige is a slightly different quality and really depends on individuals. If a player/person attaches tournament money to the 'prestige' then yeah, super series finals wins. Just different for different people. Just like some people value being flashy with money, and some people don't like that.
But for sure, 2017 edition will be the last title to grab entitled Superseries Finals. Next year, it will be World Tour Finals, providing highers points (12,000) and I think the qualifications process would be more fair which combining all 6 Levels tournament's result as described in the name Finals of World Tour (consist of all 6 levels).
I always have AE as the most prestigious tournament simply because it has the rich history of badminton around it. Can you name the last five winner of SSF? I can name for AE because it is more memorable.
Can you name winners of its predecessor which was the world grand prix finals? I think keeping the same name for a long time adds cumulative value every year. The Superseries has just established its brand name and now it changes. A bit of a pity.
No prize money just like Olympic, but the bonus from some countries like Indonesia, Malaysia, India, for the players could easily surpass what one could get from Dubai. And the title " World Champion" sounds more of a "bragging right" than just " Dubai SS Final Champion".
AllEngland has been there for hundred years.. compared to the WC,Olympic (30+ years) Olympic is prestigious because its played only 4 years once. SSF only has started for 10 years, i would play for the money..
one has been held 10 times, and will not be held ever again. one has been held 107 times in the past 119 years. what do you think?
To be honest, I start not remembering the All England champions and only remembering SSF nowadays SSF is starting to be more prestigious according to me than AE, slowly I would participate in AE and wins it once, that is enough. But I would want to participate in SSF every year as I become the top 8 players (or 10 with withdrawals and 2 reps limit per country thingy) when I go there
So the two-time former World Champion and defending world champion are out Meaning that both Chen Yufei and Sakaya Sato make their debut in Dubai. TTY, Ratchanok, Sindhu, Yamaguchi are the favorite but it will be interesting to see what challenge can offer HBJ, SJH, CY and SS
