For me, the Yonex AC102 grip lasts me quite a long time, a few months perhaps. For the first few hours, the grip is tacky, but then it becomes soft and feels almost cloth-like. Usually, I change it when the grip really starts to rip a lot or is just very old and dirty. However, I live in a climate which is not too hot, so I don't get super sweaty hands.
Ah, the thing is I don't get to play nearly as much as you do Plus I rotate rackets a lot, so that extends my grip lifespan quite a bit. I do agree with you about the colors! The lighter colors feel better, for some reason!
When I used them, I was rotating three rackets and had to change the grip each week on every single one of them.
I have the same experience with the Yonex AC102 overgrips as well. After a few hours I could already notice the wear, and it would eventually start rubbing off on my hands. I've only tried the black ones though, which some people here say aren't as good. My hands dont sweat either. I recently switched over to generic Victor overgrip (gr200?) and the problem is gone. I find it way more tacky and lasts much longer.
For AC102, personally i felt white, yellow and pink the best. While black, blue, grey and red are bad in term of tackiness and feel.
Having totally different experience than most of you with a yellow one. Gripped my duora with it back in september and still playing with it 9 months later. Playing 4.5 hours a week and my hands sweat quite a lot even in winter.
For me personally ac102 is not durable (only tried white though). I need to change it roughly every 2 weeks (I play 2-3 times for about 2.5 hours each). I have to admit that I previously only used "thick" non-overgrip type grips until I realized that I prefer a slightly thinner grip, those grips lasted me months. Can you guys recommend some type of overgrip that is more durable that has about the same thickness as ac102 (and is available in Germany/Europe without having to deal with tarrifs)?
I used ac102 grip. The good thing is that I can use the other side as well when the face side is dirty or damaged. 2 in 1 durability .
I see no reason to use AC102 when we can get RKEP G09, better feel, durability and cheaper. Everytime I end up using AC102, I always hated it.
Frankly I'm reverse. I would always go over AC102 or Wilson Overgrip Pro instead of RKEP. The RKEP comes in better fancy colors and at a much cheaper price, but that's it for me. The last batch of RKEP 09 I had, I gave away to kids and juniors at my club who needed a new grip.
@ucantseeme Hey I plan to use two of the AC102 as a replacement grip instead of the stock grip. Do you think it'll work? My current setup is using two Yonex Supergrap AC102EX and it works fine this way but i'm not sure what is the difference between the AC102EX and AC102 or AC103 @Charlie-SWUK
I'm sorry. I don't know. Generally there is no reason to use 2 Overgrips over each other, but I can't tell you how the transitions goes. Must be equal, because they are all 0.6mm thick, right? I noticed different thickness between AC102EX for different colors. I recommend to try, which amount of overlapping works best for you. Pricewise I recommend to use a cheap Overgrip to enlarge the handle and put the final Overgrip over it.
Actually it's not to enlarge the handle or anything. I simply remove the black yonex stock grip and use two overgrips instead which are still thinner than the stock grip. The reason I do this is because I like to feel the shape of the handle in my hand and the reason I put two overgrips instead of one is durability. This has been working very well for me for a long time. The problem is i'm not sure if the AC102 is the same thing as the AC102EX. The shop i'm buying my stuff does not sell the AC102EX. But you are right about the AC102EX being different with each colors.
