Ok in my quest for a new racket I actually visited Central Sports today. Luckily they had both the ZF2 4U and LDF 3U on the shelf.

Obviously they were unstrung and I was simply swinging them around in the shop, now I'm more confused!

First off both me and the shop owner felt the LDF was actually stiffer than the ZF2, albeit a different flex point, very surprising.

Secondly the ZF2 felt quicker and lighter through the air. But both felt similar in the hand.

I understand I can't read much into this comparison, and I've not hit any shuttles yet, but I expected the ZF2 to feel much more cumbersome. Now I'm even more confused, I expected the two rackets to feel very different. Both felt stiffer and more head heavy than my VT80 3U.

Maybe I should buy both and see pretend they were on sale to the Mrs!

It's no surprise that the 3U is heavier and the 4U is lighter/faster. The ZF2 is not cumbersome in the right hands, just ask Lin Dan :D. The LDF does have a bigger head, so it's kinda more forgiving than the ZF2. I don't think you could go wrong really! :)

Leaning toward the LDF now due to a bigger head, just a little concerned it might not be as quick as the ZF2 defending

If that's the case, then go for a 4U LDF. Simple!

    Whereabouts are you from?

Ideally I'm after a 4U LDF but in the 2017 matte colourway

Delhi, India. I don't have access to 4u LDF 2017 matte version but there are loads of gold ones. Same paintjob LD uses on his ZF2

Just to update my thread, after nearly a year out of the game I am now looking to purchase a new racket again. Bad news is I’m still torn between ZF2 and LDF!

I'm a former user of 3u voltric 80..which was my first head heavy racket and instantly fell in love on the first try..

4 years on.. Decided to get 3u vdlf after reading good reviews.. After initially not liking it.. And 2 weeks /6 playing sessions with it..i can Definately say it is an upgrade of VT80.. It is faster with more control..but with all power of VT80..

But that's just my personal experience with 3u vdlf.. Never tried zf2 as I'm playing doubles..

Many people say the LDF is a good upgrade on VT80, and it being the more forgiving racket definitely appeals.

My confusion lies in the fact that when I compared they two, the flex and head heaviness was very similar. And given the ZF2 is both 4U and compact head I guess it could be faster.

For comparison I also predominantly play doubles, but usually prefer to be rear court.

they're both about 100 USD each on e78 right now so you should probably order both and try them out yourself if you're unable to find anyone locally that has one for you to demo.

After placing an order with Stringersworld.com they have taken 3 days to tell me they have no stock of the LDF and cannot get anymore! Yet another retailer advertising stock they don’t have and cannot get! I think it’s so unprofessional to do this.

Think I might look at other alternatives now as I’m sick of being messed about by Yonex retailers, exactly the same happened when I placed an order with tennisnuts.com a few months back.

    I must be cursed!

Also stringersworld couldn’t even be bother to ring me either, just sent across a shitty email, god knows how they stay in business, I would never do that to one of my clients!

It's the badminton deitys telling you that you should be getting a 4u zf2.

Opportunity comes once but you've been given multiple it seems :p.

Haha I think you’re right, ordering a ZF2 4U on Monday with BG66UM strings (no logo)

Great to hear! You'll never be disappointed with a zf2 tbh. A bit funny as well since 66um was my go to with zf2.

My 3u is coming tomorrow as well. ZF2 High Five.

Just for completeness I have spent a little time playing with the ZF2, it is quite a bit quicker than the VT80. Still adjusting but I have hit a few bazookas so far! Oh and it looks great
