I was busy last days, but I will test the rackets tomorrow. I was lucky to get another Astrox 88S and 88D both in 3U. So I will do comparison with these rackets.

    Astrox 88D 3U - 90 grams
    Astrox 88S 3U - 96 grams (with original grip)
    Astrox 88S 3U - 89 grams
    Astrox 88S 4U - 88 grams

The Astrox 88S 3U which I bought recently has original grip removed and its just 1 gram heavier than my 88S 4U. I cant wait to compare them, but with just dry swing I can feel its bit more HH.

I was able to test the rackets today in the end. I am Arcsaber Z-Slash user 3U - 98 grams. Played mostly singles, but recently I got into doubles more and my ZS felt that its slows me down and after many power smashes... I couldnt generate any smashes anymore, because my shoulder wasnt strong enough. Playing 2 hours/week singles and 7hours/week doubles. So thats why I was looking for a new racket for doubles.

    88D 3U - 90 grams - (cushion wrap + not whole overgrip)
    - headheavyness - 9/10
    - manuverability - 6/10
    - power jump smash - 9-9.5/10
    - swing speed - 7/10
    - definitely not my cup of tea, its too slugish for me, but overall control/feel on shots is noticeable better than on Astrox 88S thanks to stiffer frame

    88S 3U - 96 grams - (original grip + whole overgrip)
    - headheavyness - 5.5/10
    - manuverability - 8-8.5/10
    - power jump smash - 7.5/10
    - swing speed - 8-8.5/10
    - the feeling is pretty similar to my ArcZS, the only thing where's my ArcZS worse is drives and maybe the manuverability is 7.5-8/10, even I didnt use my ArcZS for 5 weeks and played with 88S 3U (96 grams) mostly singles when I picked up ArcZS I knew right away that ArcZS suits me more. I just love the swing speed 9.5/10 (thinner frame) and the compact head especially in singles.
    - in doubles its noticeable slower than 88S 4U like my ArcZS which was one of the two reasons why I wanted different racket for doubles

    88S 3U - 89 grams (cushion wrap + not whole overgrip)
    - headheavyness - 8/10
    - manuverability - 7/10
    - power jump smash - 8-8.5/10
    - swing speed - 7.5/10
    - definitely great all-rounder racket who wants something for both singles and doubles and its used to play with slightly more HH racket.

    88S 4U - 88 grams - (cushion wrap + whole overgrip)
    - headheavyness - 6,5-7/10
    - manuverability - 9.5/10
    - power jump smash - 6.5/10
    - swing speed - 9/10
    - I just love this racket in every way except smashing at baseline where it feels like I can shatter the racket anytime. The balance point is just perfect to me and if I could find something like that in other racket which has the same BP just bit more heavy. it would be great to get the extra punch while not sacrificing the manuverability.

I guess the next step is to add some weight on the 88S 3U (89 grams) to the handle so the BP is more balanced.

So far I still prefer using 88S 4U in doubles, because I usually flick smash a lot (mostly in the front and maybe, because I am used to high swing speed). If I would like to have something all-rounded or playing mix I would get the 88S 3U (89 grams).

I wrote it in the post bit higher.

    Astrox 88S 3U (96 grams) - original grip + overgrip
    Astrox 88S 3U (89 grams) - cushion wrap + overgrip

Ah ok. Cos I never saw that in the earlier post. Just the weights which made absolutely no sense heh.

What about the 1 G difference between the 4U and 3U 88S? Is it the grip setup too?

88S 3U (89 grams) - doesnt have even full grip applied a bit less cushion wrap... I guess if I used the full grip the total weight would be probably 91-92 grams, but I wanted to have similar weight with the 4U

    88S 4U (88 grams) - full grip

Clarify this for me please because I'm still a bit confused. By full grip do your mean the entire length of over grip? Or replacement grip? Or original grip?

Sorry, I meant the entire length of overgrip by that. I just edited the comparison.

Yes I took the plunge, enjoying the change so far feels much more solid less whip.. although I do prefer the extra whippyness on the backhand side.. still adjusting to that difference.

That's nice to hear, I'm leaning more towards the 88D now for my next purchase, but we'll see..

Unfortunately I have never used the js12.. 88d has a nice crisp smash.. don't feel too fatigued after using it for a few hours

After going back and forth whether to wait for Ax99 or just buy the Ax88D..and with all the reviews that I've read so far about both of these rackets, I've decided to buy Ax88D instead because both of these rackets is quite similar and I just can't wait anymore :p.

    So just to compare:
    (Specs)
    VTZF2 4U G5
    String BG66 Ultimax
    Tension 27 lbs

    Ax88D 3U G5
    String Li-Ning No.1
    Tension 28 lbs

After 3 hours of play with Ax88D the most noticeable difference is drive shots. It's much more faster with 88D and I can defend better with it. Smash with 88D is more steeper and powerful too but the feeling is different than ZF2 because like what everyone said before ZF2 is indeed have more punch to it. Both rackets have great control to it and I can't feel any different to it or maybe it's just me. Even 88D is 3U but it feel much lighter than 4U ZF2. Can't wait to play more with it because I still need to adjust to the feeling of 88D because is different from ZF2.

Overall I'm very satisfied with AX88D and I feel my RM 499 is well spend on this racket. Thanks Yonex for create this wonderful racket and also everyone on BC because I've learnt so much about rackets here. ;)

Hock Eng Sports Bangi, Selangor bro. Usually their price are cheaper than any other shops and good customer service too. They also have former Yonex Stringer Team work there too. Give it a try for those who lives in Malaysia. :D
