it has been common practice for yonex to go with similar aesthetics in their takedown/budget versions (shoes, racquets)... for obvious reasons.

I know but these are the exact same colorway. Not only design but color as well.

    Unless i'm misleaded

Don't worry about it. You probably are being misled. That's the whole point of these things the way YY does it. There was a time someone on the forum though LD was using a VT9 and not his "actual" LDF because of the ridiculously similar colour schemes.

What's kind of interesting is how the 68S for example also has the same length as its 88s cousin.
There's no descriptions though as to whether they have the same kickpoints as the 88 series.

I'll bet they don't. They're just trying to sell cheaper cousins of the original stuff. It's what they do. It's what everyone does lmao.

i would agree, that'll be one of the "premium selling points" for the top shelf model.

The badminton racket business is getting more and more like the smartphone biz lately

At the end, business is still business, whether it's badminton related or not, sadly so .

Yeah this marketing strategy is probably to counter the imitation done by other brands such as Fleet or Apacs.

Like if people think they can get a racket similar like the Astrox 88D but cheaper AND by Yonex itself, they would choose this rather than the Fleet or Apacs.

But I love my AX88Ds too much to accept that :(

    Current setup: ax77 4u
    Preferred weight: 4u

I play only in doubles and favors playing nets and drops. As i am neither a powerful nor an accurate smasher, i usually leave the smashing to my partner.

The 77 is great, but i am looking for a lighter headed racket to provide for a quicker response especially defending. However, most of the YY even-balanced racket is weighted 3u.

Hence, my next thought would be on the 88s. Is this racket the closest thing to an even-balanced racket i could get in 4u flavour?

Only YY rackets are preferred as it is the most accessible for me.

Yep, 4u 88S, but you're gonna have trouble with repeated clears and smashes if you're forced to the back.

Honestly if you truly want something even balanced and don't want to compromise on weight then I can only suggest a Duora 9.

Yea, I have considered the duoras. I dislike the two-sided system because I have the tendency to turn my racket every now and then to get to the drier side of the grip.

Then I have to keep dropping till they deliver a mid-court opportunity for us =D

Per the website, 88s sits lighter headed in the matrix. So just wanted to confirm this is true for those who have tried both the 77 and 88s.

    Little Update:

Turns out the VTZF2 is really a smashing beast!!

I just got my 2nd new AX88D while the other one is being sent for stringing. I couldn't produce the same power smash than I could with the VZF2 and even the sound was less loud than the VTZF2 even though right now I have less tension on the BG80 VTZF2 than the BG66UM AX88D.

That said, I gained on other shots except maybe clears. And the AX88D is as fast as ever.

But once I'm used to it again i'm sure i'll get even more powerful smash than the VTZF2.

It's just that the VTZF2 feels like a hammer and the AX88D feels more like a whip.

    @LiteBulb

Judging on how fast the AX88D 3U is, i'm pretty sure the AX88S 3U is even faster!! Give it a try if you can.

I can understand that. But IMO the differences between the sides can be negligible if you're consistent enough

Nice. The 88d is definitely quicker than zf2.

Any other 77 users who have switched to the 88s? I will pull the trigger once I get a more definite opinion.

Spot on. IMO the duora thing is one hyped up useless tech thing applied to a racket.

Hmm personally I wouldn't say so. I can feel the differences between the sides. But at the risk of sounding a bit arrogant, I also know that my level of skill is at least high enough now where I could use either side as per their intended design or vice versa.

    i switch from 77 to 88s
88s is faster than 77 but less power than 77
77 is more easy to clear and user friendly than 88s (because the med stiff)
88s is good for control and drive
88s is good for double ( especially for front players)
