Ooops, as I was proof reading, I realized you stated lower tension threshold. I just saw threshold and assumed high. For low tension threshold iy is 100% dependent on the user. I know some advanced players that play at 20-22lbs. That's their ideal tension. So it just depends on you. This Panda always says: "Go with the lowest tension you can tolerate."

I once tried to get my stringer to do BG80-Power @ 32 * 34 lbs, but it kept snapping and so he had to back it down to 31 * 33 and that held fine. 31*33 seems to play fine up to 2months but seems that the current batch is deteriorating with age. Back to the performance thresholds for low tensions, 29*31 seems like a solid goto for me and I start to notice : -@28lbs ; a slight decrease in performance -@26lbs ; more noticable -@24lbs ; completely different racquet dynamics Similarly, beyond the ideal tension threshold, -31*33 lbs ; is my goto setup for longevity as it factors in tension loss over time -34lbs ; I'm losing power, although I must be weak as your going north of 36lbs By the way, have you noticed your racquets losing stiffness over time DinkAlot ? I was told that stringing these at 30lbs+ consistently will have a negative impact on the racquet and grommets. Upon my own investigation, I found that the grommet notching really makes little of a difference between the tension range I use (24 lbs - 34 lbs) and grommets need to be rotated / replaced / get notched to the same depth on each restring. Stiffness however, has been lost on one of my Voltric DG10's, which is about a year old now. It has been restrung 5 times at an average of 32lbs. Feels wise, the impression it leaves is that the shaft and head frame are still flexing after the shuttle has left the stringbed. Not sure if this is due to a recent experience I had with a borrowed Nanoray Z speed (they are stiff as they come imo, my ZF2 and DG10's don't compare) but I thought that it would be interesting to compare notes. I've strung BG80-Power at least 10 times at 34lbs. and no problems. It shouldn't be snapping. If it's a thick string, 0.70mm+, I may go higher than 35 (but haven't in the last year). In general I stay at 33-34 because I don't want to stress the racket/grommets too much more, it's just not worth it. Racket stiffness: yes, the shaft is the first thing to go. Either the shaft or handle will snap or the shaft will get very flexy. This is just a fact of life.
@DinkAlot at these high tensions: how often do you have to replace/twist grommets? like how many times can you string fresh grommets? Is there a big difference between lets say 28 and 34 lbs? Second question: Like you said Aerosonic is great. When on AS I'm struggling with slices (compared to bg80) though. Did your slices suffer any? Do I need more texture? If so, what are thinner, more repulsive strings you can recommend for slicing...
Depends on the tension:* Assuming all new grommets: 34-35lbs.: rotate all the grommets every string job, new grommets last 2 string jobs before replacing 31-33lbs.: rotate all the grommets every string job, new grommets last 2-3 string jobs before replacing 28-30lbs.: rotate all the grommets every string job, new grommets last 4 string jobs before replacing 27-24lbs.: rotate all the grommets every string job, new grommets last 6-8 string jobs before replacing 23lbs. or lower: rotate all the grommets every string job, 9-12 string jobs before replacing *This is what I do to help preserve the rackets. It's not essential to rotate/replace so often as I think you will be OK if you doubled the number of string jobs before replacing everything but I err on the side of caution. --------------------- Aerosonic: there is no string more repulsive than Aerosonic (at least not that I have tried). AS wins by a good margin. If there is a string more repulsive, please tell me. I have no problems slicing with AS. I think because it's more repulsive that you are having problems slicing, you may have to change degree of slicing slightly... ...comparing slicing on BG80 to AS, with AS, I slice more whereas on BG80 I push more, if that makes sense. AS is more repulsive so it shoots off the string bed faster and if not enough slice/cut, it will float. BG80 is thicker, has more texture, not as repulsive, I need to push the bird more, if I slice with BG80 like I do with AS, it will go into the net. Hope that made sense. So, for optimum slicing (at least for me) Aerosonic: more slice/cut, less push BG80: more push, less cut Disclaimer: we all grip our rackets differently so your results may vary. Best to test it out.

The strings I currently use: 1) Yonex Aerosonic (best performing and favorite string overall) 2) Yonex NBG98 3) LN1 4) Adidas Stiliston W70 (an excellent 0.70mm string) 5) Adidas Wucht P68/Spieler E66/E68/Uber F66/Kalkul A68 (all are good to potentially excellent; I haven't had time to test them in detail) I'm using mostly the W70 right now since it's winter.
No updates, I have been so busy. I may try to update it and other reviews during Christmas vacation. BG80 is one of the best, even after all these years. Any of the top strings by the top manufacturers should be considered. For thin string: I especially like Yonex Aerosonic, NBG98, BG66UM, LiNing No. 1 and 3. For medium string: Yonex BG80/BG85, Victor VS-850 For thick string: Adidas Stilistin W70, Yonex BG65, BG70Pro, NBG95, Ashaway ZM69 I'm sure there are many other excellent strings but I either have not tried them or forgot to mention them.
Hmmm, this is tough, it's splitting hairs; all three are excellent strings, among the best I've tried. It would just come down to personal preference. LN1 and NBG98 are going to play similarly (tension feel) at 25lbs. LN3 is thinner and strings tighter so I would string it 1-2lbs. lower to get a similar feel when compared to LN1 and NBG98.

I was wanting an opinion on strings for myself. I live in a place with no stringer so I need something half decently durable, so I am not shipping away my tickets on the bus to be restrung all the time. It become very very costly. I currently and running zymax 66fire power. It is decently durable I would say, I just feel like it is missing that "cleanness" in game play. I used to run BG66UMX which is my all time favorite string but I would break then way to often for recreation/coaching leaving me with backup rackets constantly. I know you have to sacrafi .Some game play for durability, just wondering some opinions. The Zymax 66fire power does the job, just curious to know if there is something out there possibly better?
You could always give Li-Ning No.1 or even No.5 a try. Both are excellent in durability given their respective thicknesses until breakage and -even more important- in playability over time. They just don't seem to die in terms of feel and repulsion.
ZM62 Fire. It's durable. Or maybe the new ZM 64TX. Much better crispness than 66 Fire Power, which really is meant for plastics imho. Sent from my SM-G965W using Tapatalk
We do mainly play with plastics here. Does pay to have feather shuttles with our current club. However I do play with feathers when certain people show up
I purchase most of my stuff through yumo that doesn't offer lining strings I've heard bg80 power are good as well. Or are you recommending bg80 (not the power version)
For me, BG80 is way better. BG80 Power drops tension significantly after a few hours, it doesn't even feel like the same string.
