I'm gonna assume he kept the 31x33 after the transition from 66 and DZS. Surely sounds like it.

Having experienced that first hand (and higher...for as), I'm jealous..

But hey I ain't complaining. I'll hear him live in January plus the guy hit 416kmph against CTC. Boy would I have loved to hear and see that live from front seats.

Guess it's 35 on the Aerosonic part... :)

Yes, right. Main = Aerobite (in this case red) and cross = Aerosonic (white)

Did Momota break strings in any of his matches at the German Open? I have only seen the final highlights so far...

Not that I can recall. But then he outplayed and outclassed Nishimoto so much that I don't think he needed to really hit full strength most of the time.

Maybe I am used to seeing mens doubles players breaking a string at some point in a tournament whilst using lower tensions but Momota seems to go through multiple tournaments without breaking a single string - but it does seem to be rare in singles despite the ever higher tensions they use.

Probably has to do more with the pace of the game and the resultant hitting accuracy being lower due to the pressure. I'd say there's a much higher rate of mishits in doubles than there are in singles. But that being said I do vaguely recall a couple of tournaments last year where Momota was regularly breaking strings throughout the tournament. I think it was around the period he switched to Aerobite on the AX99.

Men's doubles players typically have higher tensions, I'd say around ~2lbs more on average. Momota is an outlier in MS, he'd probably be most comparable to Carsten Mogensen, who used up to 34/36 iirc.
The most important factor is that you rarely go for all-out smashes in singles, and if you do, you're almost never off balance, whereas in doubles you often try to hit a fast coming shuttle very hard in the flat game, and that's where lots of strings break when there's a slight mishit.

Agreed. Boe and Mogensen were serial string breakers :D:D:D I think they could get through more rackets in a tournament than I could in a season.

If I'm correct, he gave us only 3 rackets during the whole tournament, so not much. Other players did 3 rackets in 1 match:D
