To me, it would count as an upset as Prannoy is unseeded whereas LD is seeded #11.

If an unseeded or lower seeded player beats a higher seeded player, it would count as an upset. The seeding is based on BWF ranking.

    what about
    KIM/RASS (8) vs Goh/tan(14)

if goh/tan wins over kim/rassmusen does it consider as an upset? RANK 14 over rank 8

    Yes I would.
However, the BWF ranking may not be perfect but it does reflect the recent performance of the players during recognized tournaments.
Some established players are unable to participate in as many tournaments due to injury or other reasons and are therefore unable to score points which will affect their world ranking.

At the Japan Open, Jan Jorgensen allegedly indicated to Badpal that this is likely to be his last World Championship. Apparently, he commented that it should be Axelsen and Antonsen that represent Denmark in the Tokyo Olympics.

If the above is true, then I hope he does himself justice in this tournament.

Hi brother, thanks for remembering and warm regards from SGP!

Coincidentally I have the same initials as our young man who has given Singapore fans some hope together with our WS Yeo Jia Min.
He has done very well to beat Sameer but our YJM will face the "gigantic" WR1 Akane today. Just looking forward to see how well she could perform against the Japanese ace. :)

Jorgensen stated realistic perspective that his two younger compatriots have better chance in Tokyo 2020 than him, good point IMO.
    Yes.

This is certainly true. However, at the same time, it is difficult to deny that Axelsen has become somewhat injury-prone recently. I wonder whether he is going to be fit for the Olympics.

His current goal is grabbing 5th Olympic ticket (2004-2008-2012-2016-2020?), to dispose Chen Long at the end (I believe CBA will secure one MS slot for their golden boy Shi YQ). If he fails, don't know whether he still insists to eye Paris 2024?!

It's becoming clear that in the Americas, Canada is proving to be the leading badminton nation overall.

I'm happy that YJM vs AY will be on a TV court! Gill/Steen might do commentary on it too, so here's hoping that YJM will make it competitive.

According to betting odds, if you guys had bet on lining chick Somerville and her partner, you would have won 5x your money. Definitely an upset imo.

    Play hard. Train harder.
