    Hi all

Anyone knows if it's possible to find results from previous world championships? Specifically from 1977 up until 1987.

From 1989 is available on BWF website, but not previous editions.

Wikipedia only has results starting from quarterfinal in those early editions.

INTRESTING FACT - First time in the Badminton History All Three Reigning Olympic Medalists are WORLD CHAMPIONS till the next Olympic Games in WS...

    NO World Champ 2017-2018
    CM World Champ 2018-2019
    PVS World Camp 2019-2021

PVS has an advantage due to OG for being World Champ for two years :)

I think ibelieveindevil and samkool have both missed the point of the original post. badders7 acknowledged that Wikipedia had pre-1989 results from QF onward and that tournamentsoftware had full results, right from round 1 through to finals, for every edition since 1989. Clearly, what is being sought is pre-1989 pre-QF WC results.

if you follow the right links from the page i linked you'll find all the info... ie: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1977_IBF_World_Championships_–_Men's_Singles

i wasn't about to post all the required links. it would take too much time on my part, and i was never one to do other people's homework. :D

    seek and you will find...

Ah. Fair enough. Clicking on the discipline from the index just takes you to the QF-onward summary but clicking on the section header from there takes you to the full draw. Thanks for the clarification.

Thanks samkool although your tone is not appreciated... :D But unfortunately there are quite a few results missing in the early rounds in all of the doubles categories on the wikipedia links.

I did obviously check myself before writing a post here, but wasn't able to find FULL results. Maybe should have been more clear in my original post.

If you can do my homework by finding full results, I'll be your biggest fan!

i noticed some scores are missing, and the source website for those are not reachable/no longer exist. without knowing what the qualifying criteria was in those years i'm assuming:
    • those are byes, because there was a much smaller pool of players back then.
    • regarding china - no names until 1983. they were recovering from the cultural revolution ending in 1976 so it took awhile to get back up to speed. i'm guessing nobody qualified by 1980, thereby having to wait until 1983
    my work here is done...:D

    Olympic game = World championship.

It means if someone won OG, they already considered as WC in this year.

Moreover, the point of The Champion would be counted for only 1 year.

Yes I agree because Olympic and WC have the same points which is the highest of any tournament and thats the reason OG and WC are considered the two MAJOR tournaments in any sport not only badminton.
