i agree with you, but the catch-22 is corporate sponsors believe higher level tournaments attract more fans. they erroneously equate 'lower level' with 'meaningless.'
Depends on what you mean by 'meaningless'. Meaningless for the sport of badminton? Certainly not, because there's alot of upcoming talent at lower level tournments. But meaningless for sponsors? I would definitely agree. If you watch livestreams of lower level tournament, even on finals day, there aren't more than a handfull of spectators there. And I strongly suspect that most of them are either coaches, relatives or friends of the players.
It was really nice to be able to watch tournaments without ear protection. I hope she doesn't play in the German Open next year. I'd be okay with her playing if she ruptured a vocal cord or sth though.

China only cares about the sovereignty issue, as long as Chinese Taipei, similarly for HKSAR and Macau SAR, represent themselves under a special arrangement agreed upon by China, there is no problem.

If your tournament is BWF sanctioned, there is no way you can ignore that prohibition without consequences. For Taiwan, only the approved Chinese Taipei flag is allowed to be displayed. I'm against political bullshit too, averse to it, but national sovereignty is sacred and inviolable for every independent nation on Earth, esp for all UN members.

Corporate orders do not top the law. If viewers want to wave a Taiwan flag, let them. No law against it. You can ask them to stop, but they can simply refuse. Simple as that. Totally alright. Especially considering S. Katethong is in good form being the winner of the Mongolia open back in June (beating the likes of An Se Young) and lost in semi final of the Taiwan open last week against Michelle Li in a three setter. I didn't see the match so I can't comment on how CM played but judging by the score (CM lost 22 - 24 ; 22 - 20) it seems she was already having a good rhythm for her first official match in 7 months. Time will tell if she can successfully come back from her injury Not an easy task... but if someone can do it it's her. She has the motivation for it.
Ah, Marin knocked in R1 by Supanida Katethong, 24-22, 22-20. Obviously, She is not fully match-fit yet.
