Liu Liang escaped by the skin of his teeth, saves 5 matchpoints and wins the deuce straight, 22-20, to give CHN a lifeline ! What a fighter is Liu Liang, he never gives up !

Wow, she really didn't shake hands with the players. Atrocious that the BWF tolerates this.

This post may not be liked by some and may get deleted. But I think sports should cut across religious and political lines. The female umpire refusal to handshake with Liu and Bobby just like numerous times when Muslim umpires refuse to shake hands with other players should not be encouraged. BWF can bring absurd rules to make skirts mandatory for females but not make a rule to shake hands, hilarious. No offence to anyone but that's my opinion.

Who's saying that bwf should ban Ahsan ? Discouragement and banning are two different things.

I think that everyone should have the right to believe in whatever they want. But if what you believe in stops you from shaking hands with players, you don't become an umpire, simple as that. The handshake in badminton is the central gesture of mutual respect and sportsmanship. It shouldn't be sacrificed for individuals' superstition.

The next Chen Long is Lee Zii Jia. Bobby plays more like Bao Chun Lai.

Wait. For real? Fines, then. Every single time someone refuses to shake an umpires hand, fine them. Also funny how far people choose to limit themselves for some stupid superstition. Not shaking hands with the opposite sex? I know of people who didn't get hired for jobs for that kind of idiocy (rightfully so, I might add).

You shall get ready for some backlash lol. That's what I meant, we are living in a free world in 2019 and still these things exist. Not generalising but these types of incidents create divisions.

Very likely just referring to the sports team. At the very most, it's a political comment (very unlikely) - nothing racist at all.

Even if it is religion, does all of these MANDATORY? I don't think so. Tontowi is muslim, yet he doesn't share his religious practice with Ahsan. He can hug his ex partner with no problem.

Well superstition isn't the word I'd normally use but it's the most objectively correct one that isn't perceived as insulting (by sane people).
People should be free to believe whatever they want, as long as that doesnt mean demeaning others or denying them basic gestures of respect/politeness. If someone chooses to limit themselves for no discernible freaking reason and only drinks when they sit, their choice. If they display obviously sexist behavior, punish it as you would in any other instance where people didn't cite an imaginary friend as an excuse.
