I was just speaking to one of the ex-HK players today about Olympic qualification. He said that year he was trying to qualify was very stressful, not only for him but other players as well. Sometimes it can affect physical and mental health in quite a detrimental fashion.

Health is important and let’s bear in mind that players also have their pressures as well. Even more so with lives out in the open on social media.

Shooting federation has been a major force behind the junior programme. They have invested very well. Results are there to see. Junior shooters are winning senior world cups but the main competition would be Olympics. Let's see they have mental strength or not because talent is in abundance but it alone is not enough to win you a Olympics medal. Plus, there are great Indian and foreign coaches in shooting who demand discipline from their wards. I don't see that in our badminton setup. Discipline is a basic and top factor if one wants to succeed.

I was watching one of Tasnim Mir's previous videos and it was one of sub junior national championships. When Mir pushed the shuttle wide, the commentator said " Error. Side box error". Immediately, i switched off the sound and watched it peacefully. :D

The condition of badminton is becoming worse . By seeing the finalists of junior national championships and for the WS, both the finalists were 15 year olds. Tasnim Mir and Vijetha Harish . Tasnim Mir took the title. I am wondering what happened to the players in between 15 and 19. There is nobody to challenge these two girls? Then we are done. These girls need atleast 4 years to prove their talent at the international stage.

16-19 yo girls are apparently ready to shake off the thrones of CM, TTY, PVS. They're focussing on easy senior international tournaments than these sub par junior domestic tournaments. God, give them power to achieve what they want. ;)

We are indebted to Gopi for what he's done for Indian badminton. I don't think any of us Indian fans would have been here had Gopi not started his academy and produce good international players some of them great. All good things take time. What's needed is that hunger and perseverance to prosper.

Many of the players like Saina, Kashyap, Guru Sai Dutt, Prannoy, Sai Praneeth, Srikanth, Sindhu, Verma Brothers all have started training at academy when Gopi just retired from international badminton. So Gopi is more of an elder sibling to them. Now here comes the catch, the student-coach relationship must be like what happens in other countries like Japan, China, Indonesia, Korea. These 4 countries have a proper structure unlike ours (not an excuse though). As Gopi is their elder brother type figure, discipline will not be that much which is to be expected.

What Gopi needs to do is have that hunger always so that in future, quality players are produced. That's what a smart man would do. Self denial will lead us nowhere. What matters is the end product, no one will care "ohh India doesn't have good structure, that's why they don't win medals or strong at team events" . Excuses don't work at higher level. Maybe excuse will bring you a little bit of satisfaction but will cost you greatly at sports.

For future course, better bring quality foreign coaches , keep the ego aside of domestic coaches and instill a great attitude in upcoming players, discipline them. For many years, politics thing always come up at what's happening in Gopi Academy. Hope it improves in future.

So, the feeling from Indian badminton fans towards Gopichand is all about gratitude (for what he's done till now) and frustration (for what he's doing at present- delusion)

I don’t think there are any decent young players at Gopi’s academy.

Hmmm, in level of Sindhu, Saina ? No. But hopes on Samiya, Tasnim Mir, Pranav Rao, Priyanshu Rajawat. But problem is we are not able to watch more of Samiya, Priyanshu because they are trying to bypass the learning phase and directly participating in senior tournaments. They are mediocre players at junior level, so why don't they perform well at junior level , prove themselves and slowly participate in senior ones. Their guidance is worst. The problem lies with the players and their guides.

Many of the most promising players like LS, Sankar Mutusamy, Meiraba are not from PGBA. Also there are no promising young players visible from AP & TS.

Sankar has to prove more. He's still in very early stage. Meisnam is good, he needs to have more mental strength. I think with age, Meisnam will improve and start to show his worth. We had a disastrous WJC last year. So yeah, we don't have great talents rn.

Satwik screwed up badly, poor shot quality that induced failed and erroneous deception. Every one exited today, picnic begins tomorrow.

Today seemed like a preview of whats to come tomorrow.

I thought only Srikanth booked an early flight ticket after first round, looks like all of them booked it together.

Or may be Indian team will go touring KL after round 1 exits.
