Thank you CLELY for posting the schedule for 2020. It's much easier to understand and much more organized than last year's schedule: https://www.badmintoncentral.com/forums/index.php?threads/bwf-calendar-2019.179407/ I do appreciate cxytdn for posting the schedule for 2019, but it was just difficult to parse. The date of the tournament was not clear (it went by week #) and also, whether the tournament was an S300, S500, or S750 level tournament was not clear either. We had to parse through two lookup tables to figure it out and it just wasn't very user friendly. In the future, can all the mods post the schedule in the format like CLELY? I ask this because the entire forum will be referring to the schedule the entire year and trying to figure out the 2019 schedule was just laborious and required more time, compared to CLELY's schedule which is much more clear cut. For something that forum members will refer to for the entire year, it would be easier for all of us to refer to if we have a schedule like CLELY's schedule (if it were a one time event, I wouldn't care as much if it were disorganized but since it's referred to for the entire year, it's worth it to make it more user friendly).
Thanks for taking your time to create the schedule! Also, another good thing about Clely's schedule is that you don't have to login with your account at badmintoncentral.com to see the schedule. If the schedule is an attachment, it forces you to login to your account to see the schedule. Otherwise, attachments are blocked for people that have not logged in to the website. That's another positive with Clely's schedule.
I'm just very happy that badminton is back. Hopefully there will be tons of amazing matches this year leading up to 2020, without any need for the players to push themselves so hard that they face injury.
Life goes on. Feels like as a fan, its actually tiring to always watch badminton. so we just watch certain sectors or certain matches. rarely watch WD or XD matches. WS is still exciting if top 8 meet each other but if 2nd ranked vs 13 or 5th ranked vs 11, its not really exciting as well. Only ASY is good outside 8 and she plays like defensive wall.

Tournaments affected include three HSBC BWF World Tour events headlined by the BLIBLI Indonesia Open 2020 (Super 1000), plus a number of Grade 3, Junior and Para badminton competitions. bwf overlooked the wt300 u.s. open june 23-28 & t100 canada open june 30 - july 5th. wonder why... is there something going on in north america we don't know about?
So no tournament until TUC in August (if it still goes on) aside of the US and Canada Open Interesting...
Two matters I'd like to discuss regarding the remaining (or what will be left) 2020 season: 1/. Should we expect the general level of play to go down, even slightly, for the post Covid-19 tournaments? I'm thinking of the lack of tournaments and competitive play time all players go through. On the other end their motivation might be at an all time high. Could it balance with the lack of play to maintain the same level we witnessed pre Covid-19? 2/. Depending of their country, some athletes already resumed court training (Taiwan for example) while some might see the confinement to be extended (Europe), should we expect some surprises? In a way some players might seem more comfortable than usual on court and over perform when tournaments resume while some others might lack court time and underperform? Just some food for thought here.
The big concern once pandemic eased is lacking of sponsorships to stage tournaments as economic recession looms.
the large corporate sponsors contracted to bwf aren't much to worry about. the local sponsors of each tournament the host/organizer scrambles to get every year to offset their costs of hosting are the ones you have to worry about. the smaller nat'l federations will also be lacking in money to contribute, well, if they have ever contributed in the past. it'll be up to bwf to contribute a little more cash to the host/organizer from their hsbc vault, or lower the cosmetic requirements. but, will they...?
The contract with HSBC is going away end of 2021 though I think we will se reducal in prize money and number of tournaments after next year
that would depend on whether hsbc & bwf put their contract on pause, like other sports might do, for the duration of the downtime. there may already be language in their contract to deal with force majeure. even if there isn't, a contract can always be renegotiated at any time during its term upon the willingness and agreement by both parties. i'm 99.99% sure there's a 4 year renewal option for hsbc in the current contract also. if there isn't all i can do is at bwf... again. it is in the best interest of both sides to extend their contract equal to the length of the suspension of events. from bwf's point of view they obviously want to have the funding available for the time when tournaments resume. on hsbc's side i would think they want to get the exposure they paid for. of course hsbc can always walk away in accordance with the original terms, but, it sure won't look good publicity wise. once tournaments resume the live attendance may be much smaller or nonexistent by law. however, the streaming #'s would inversely increase basically giving hsbc an equal # of aggregate viewers. the downside would be the host/organizers losing out on ticket sales revenue.
