i did mentioned endorsement in my first paragraph ;)
Well, same as olympic too but with lesser amount, WC winners do get some kind of 'rewards' outside the tournament. I have already posted before about yonex give out cash to olympic and WC finalists, semi's, etc :) It's in the thread talking about taufik wanting all of yonex's handout from the olympic

from now on, WC is an annual affair, with the exception of the olympic years??

there is no excuse for losing so badly, draft or otherwise... there ws no effort from the very beginning... going down 0-13 within minutes?? a chn delegate commented that shldnt have happened even if LD hd to play with his right hand...

I believe it is held every two years but of course for poor Lin Dan, he just couldn't wait to avenge his defeat, perhaps that's the reason for his oversight..

I would really like to see women from other countries challenge China when it comes to Women's singles and doubles, just for the sake of better competition. We need more Camilia Martins, Susi Susantis and Mia Audinas..good to see that Taiwanese girl making it to the semis, and in fact, took a set of XXF too. Don't worry guys, I'm training my butt off right now, you might just see my name up there yet...(in the over 85 category..I think it's called the 'ancients'! :p)

    I agree too.
statistics showed TH beat LD in net plays by a big margin. I don't think draft can affect LD's net play and not TH's net play from my limited experience

I have to say I'm really happy with the results for the two mens events, I'm not really a big follower of the others.

Tony has always been one of my favourite players, quite possibly the smartest player to ever walk onto a court, and he has proved it by winning the big events with a variety of partners.

Taufik I think is an arrogant child, but definately the most talented player of this generation, probably one of the most talented ever and one of the best to watch.

I'm so inspired, I might actually touch my racquets again some day, er one day ...

PS I didn't realise that Yogi had left Melbourne?!
PPS Good to see that the old crowd is still here, and that Adelina has returned.

I agree. It was totally unlike Lin Dan to put up such a poor showing. He was soooo slow and simply did not employ much of his killer smashes.

But again, as one commentator had reminded, Lin Dan had to endure long matches before the Final. He had been on court for more than three hours and this could have sapped much of his energy. On the other hand, Taufik had much easier and shorter encounters.

In any case, Taufik was in full control right from the beginning and his confidence never left him.

So, for those who think that China can win all the events, think twice. :D

So we would expect the World Championship next year. I agreed that Lin Dan easy defeat does not befit his World Number One ranking and he had let down all the badminton fans who awaited a classic match.

China was not far from winning 4 events. Just because it didn't happen does not mean that it couldn't have.

It is not fair to put the whole weight of the sport on Lin Dan's shoulder. He could have been genuinely exhausted. Maybe he let us down in the final, but the semi-final was a classic.

Using your logic, only the WD champion is befitting the #1 ranking.

It must be a blue moon. I see Pecheur, Adel and Adelina in one thread.

Taufik - talented. Great badminton mind....when he wants it. The greatest? Nearly there. He needs one more World Championship to be there with Yang Yang.

Howard Bach - great performance backing up another great badminton mind in Tony G. I spoke to him in the 2003 HK Open. Who could have predicted I was speaking to a future World Champ??:D

I didn't see the other matches. I was on a 24 hour shift at work and only got home in time to see the demolition man Taufik and the Men's doubles.

Perhaps I anticipated a good match from a dream final and I do understand that World Number 1 may lose too but it's just that he lost rather tamely.

From the badminton fan point of view, the match is more of a let down because as a showcase event, it failed to give a good impression to the non-badminton world.

Agree.. i din expect the MS to end in less than 40 minutes. I was actually expecting a rubber game before a champion will emerge between the 2 wonderful players..

I am so happy with Tony Gunawan and Howard Bach winning. Well, I would've been just as happy to see Candra Wijaya and Sigit Budiarto win as well. I was a fan of Candra and Tony's when they won the olympics in 2000, I'm still a fan of theirs now that they play for different countries! I was rooting for both teams!

It was touching to hear Tony acknowledge how Candra has helped him become the badminton player he is now and seeing Tony and Sigit hug right after the game was heart warming too. Candra and Sigit may not play for the same team anymore but I think they will both be one of the best MD tandem ever!

Oh, Howard Bach played like Americans do... emotional but my hat goes off to that dude. He could be the least experienced player of the four but to play with someone like Tony Gunawan is definitely a dream come true!

This whole tournament will definitely be good for badminton in the US. :)

Come on everybody! WC is not like Thomas Cup or Sudirman Cup, it is an individual championship where you're representing yourself thus saying Tony playing for USA and....is all your own making. True that he might think that he is playing for USA which he doesn't need to think that way, may be he just want to thanks to USA badminton for giving him the facilitis and opportunities who knows ? I believe that he wanted to continue to play after leaving Indonesia is because he still enjoy playing badminton thus he is playing for himself.
