BAM place faith on Indonesian coaches in revamp Monday, 18 May 2020 By RAJES PAUL https://www.thestar.com.my/sport/ba...m-place-faith-on-indonesian-coaches-in-revamp PETALING JAYA: Malaysia have decided to depend more on foreign coaches rather than locals as badminton chief coaches under the latest revamped coaching structure. The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) have named Indonesia’s Hendrawan, Flandi Limpele, Indra Wijaya and Paulus Firman as the chiefs of the men’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s singles and mixed doubles departments respectively. The only other department – the women’s doubles, will be under the charge of former men’s doubles international Chan Chong Ming.
start follow Japan’s team, hire more foreigners, especially they got coaches from Korea, Malaysia and formerly Indonesia...
I guesss Flandi is a better MD coach than Paulus Firman. Good going for MAS and Razif Sidek please you can zip it.
great move from BAM as there will be no 'espionage' inside BAM training center... https://www.nst.com.my/sports/badmi...siders-not-allowed-contact-national-shuttlers
their talents such as Jeremy Gan, Wong Tat Meng & Tan Kim Her already went to coach another countries...
Quite a few new promotions into the ladies singles squad. All quite young. 2 and a half years to Paris.
Malaysia will never win a Gold medal in Olympics for obvious reasons. Toxicity of media, lack of psychological warfare tactics and last but not least the lack of ability within Malaysian athletes to think of the bigger picture. BAM spends millions of Malaysian Ringgit annually replacing international coaches, sending players overseas to tournaments and hiring condition specialist. They still cannot break the curse of not able to win World Championship and Olympics. The three points outlined among them, I will say the second point is the most important and decisive of all. I feel the BAM management needs to focus on the bigger picture or even learn some tactics from Sun Tzu Art of War. That book may be applicable in business today but there are some good points that can be derived from the knowledge. Until today, they are still operating in the same way. Why can't they be a bit more cunning with their tournament selections and strategic deployment of players? They clearly failed with Lee Chong Wei when LCW is the by far the best chance for a gold medal ruined three times successively When Lee Chong Wei was at his best between 2010 till 2015, there were very few opponents that could potentially beat him. The closest opponent was Lin Dan but Lin Dan was no perfect either because he too faces stress and anxiety when facing LCW. Due to their incompetence and lack of strategic planning, LCW has a bit to blame himself too by allowing the oppositions to read him like an open book. I do not understand why LCW had to participate and steamroll in almost every tournament in a calendar , then to ultimately lose on the bigger goals. This is lack of thinking a bigger picture from management and to some extent the player themselves. If I am at the peak of my form and my number of REAL opponents are so limited, I will keep a low profile first before showing my true strength/power on the ACTUAL tournaments i want to win. I rather see LCW win one Gold Medal/World Champ with zero Super Series titles than him with dozens of SS titles but ending up with no big titles. Apologies but I am bringing up this example as one of BAM failures. More to come from them as this continues.
Another similar case I can bring up related to Koo Kien Keat and Tan Boon Heong ? That pair is the most successful players and one of a kind you will never see again in your lifetime. Rexy randomly paired them up and they took the world by storm. Winning Asian Games Gold, All England and multiple SS titles. That was a perfect year for them when their opponents except JJS/LYD had no idea of how to deal with them. I feel like they should have kept a low profile by not playing to their full ability and pretend to avoid playing too frequently against the top pairs before the Olympics' Season. Had they played these tactics and suddenly take the whole lot by surprise like what they did in Asian Games, they probably would have been a finalist or even an Olympic gold medallist in Beijing. Until today, I cannot digest the fact that Koo/Tan lost the decisive Quarterfinal game against Setiawan/Kido. I mean they lost an important game after beating that pair so many times in the past. It still stings until today. Had that match been won, I would have bet 80 percent Koo/Tan will defeat Fu Haifeng/Cai Yun. So again BAM should applied these tactics in spite of the moral or ethnical issue ?
That was what the Indonesians used to do keep their top players for important championships notably All England and THomas cups. But............ We cant do that today. FIrst there is a number of tournaments you need to play for the year in order to collect qualifying points and some of these are 2nd tier tournaments. Second the players themselves will revolt. They make their living from prize money and participation in games not to mention ranking payments. KKK has admitted that he wasnt so keen pairing up with Tan because he was already top 4 ranking with Chan CM and earning subtantial income then, he wasnt keen on starting all over again with a junior. Later some time in late 2012 , he wasnt keen on being split from Tan for the same reasons.
Yup. Mentality is a problem. Now, I can only see LJZ performing. The rest kaput. I also scratch my head on how Aaron/Soh can get a medal. wakaka. Credit to the coach. LJZ needs to win more tournament or maintain top 5. I wonder how many tournaments can Aaron/Soh wins. Time for them to show something as a bronze medalist. Their opponents must be sleeping not playing Aaron more or let him smash till he punctured. Simple strategy and yet, they try to play ding dong drive which is advantage to chubby Aaron who doesn't need to run or smash. Saves him so much energy. Lucky boy. Oh ya. lastly. The Taufik revelation. Match fixing is still there. They are stucked with some godfathers inside. Unless they can get rid of them. I doubt. Toxic. Even LCW not helping. So, forget about Malaysia future. Once in a blue moon to cheers and that's it.
