Which, in the current situation, is probably the right thing to do. There is no justification for having cancelled tournaments in June, July or August out of precaution, but holding them now, when infections are going through the roof everywhere. As much as we all want to see badminton continue, it can't be detrimental to those that are rightfully cautious. I think this should be a time for solidarity and not infighting. Let those who want to participate, participate. They get money, titles, match practice, exposure. Let those who can't participate not be punished tenfold. They are already losing a lot as is.
the problem is nobody can predict when it will be 'all clear' for everybody. it is very possible an 'all clear' for all geographic areas may not coincide for a few years. what then? do you wait? what if the power countries —asians & top europeans— are all clear but the lower tier countries —pan-am, eastern europe, oceana, etc.— are not? i can guarantee you those power teams will be bitching to get the points started again... and bwf will give in to their demands. would that be fair? this would make solidarity impossible. under the current structure badminton remains in the hands of the gov't backed armies and there's no incentive for these armies to seek change. sorry, i meant 'teams'... what badminton denmark is doing right now is an incredible saving grace. but, it does not solve the underlying long term problems of the current system. the rich armies, no. the soldiers in those armies, yes.
It's kind of useless prevention unless you throw away the shuttles EVERYTIME after the opponent won a point. Otherwise when you serve, you will touch the shuttle after the opponent has touched it when they served before.
Yeahh same like this. Them doing elbow touch (alternative to shaking hands) and then moving pieces in chess board.
It still removes the service judge from the equation. It's one less person in contact with the 2 players and 2 for the service judge. It's still better than not doing anything.
The difference being in chess there are several pieces that may be touched repeatedly between the players, unlike badminton where only one shuttlecock is used and replaced with a new one every now and then.
Yeah I meant to say that elbow touching is unnecessary then, they can shake hands And regarding badminton, still shuttles are being touched. If thats the case, players can shake hands too. Its like one case which I saw today. Went to dominos and one of the staff told one lady to wear the mask. Lady replies "how will I eat then" , staff member says "when the food will come, you can remove the mask and eat". Makes no sense wearing the mask in the waiting time.
Given the unpredictability of the problem at hand, it is difficult to judge the 'right' timing. Nevertheless, whilst being careful in taking precautions, other sports are moving forward. So why can't badminton? I think that Denmark deserves to be commended for bringing about this tournament. And one way of doing this is to treat the Denmark Open as a fully-fledged tournament, points and all. I sincerely hope that that no infections are discovered, and that this particular event will act as an example in show-casing that international badminton can indeed move forward. The Olympics will be held in less than a year, in an environment that will be 'with corona', and probably 'without a vaccine'. Are those 'rightly cautious' federations and teams going to be 'rightly cautious' then. Somehow, I doubt it.

Yeah. He was clearly talking about player countries who have withdrawn. We know about Kashyap's complaints about 'this' and 'that'. But we dont know whether japanese team is looking for something goes wrong in this tournament.
