Besides power, tactical awareness and a feel for the shuttle, doubles requires teamwork, blind understanding is the key. If that is given, spectacular matches are guaranteed. These are the masters of their trade, Top 10 Best Men's Badminton Doubles ever: 1. Marcus Fernaldi Gideon - Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo (Indonesia) 2. Lee Yong-dae - Yoo Yeon-seong (Korea) 3. Cai Yun - Fu Haifeng (China) 4. Hendra Setiawan - Markis Kido (Indonesia) 5. Koo Kien Keat - Tan Boon Heong (Malaysia) 6. Carsten Mogensen - Mathias Boe (Denmark) 7. Mohammad Ahsan - Hendra Setiawan (Indonesia) 8. Tan Wee Kiong - Goh V Shem (Malaysia) 9. Ko Sung Hyun - Lee Yong-dae (Korea) 10. Li Junhui - Liu Yuchen (China) That is my choice. How about you?
I hope your list is in no particular order Because Cai/Fu should undisputedly on the top based on 4 consecutive WC and rounding it off by winning the 12 OG.
The first 3 positions really made me confused. Each couple has different strengths. They are all legendary in this content. I highly recommend the Gideon / Sukamuljo couple. Because they always show excellent performance in all competitions. In the past 4 years, they have no rival. Especially in 2018, when they won almost every prestigious title of badminton in the world. As for the other two couples, I can only rank based on how long they hold 1st place on the chart.
Where are all other pairs from the 80s, 90s, 00s? Your top ten list only include pairs from the last decade. Gideon/Sukamuljo, Cai/Fu, LYD/YYS and Ahsan/Setiawan are definitely top ten. But personally I will not include Goh/Tan, Lee/Ko and Li / Liu (not yet at least) in the top ten list. Mixed feelings about Koo/Tan, Kido/Setiawan and Boe/Morgensen, they are great pairs but borderline top ten of all time imo. Though Kido/Setiawan won Olympic Gold, their longevity did not hold up compare to other greats. Pairs that in my opinion worth mentioning or should be on that list Gunawan / Wijaya Wijaya / Budiarto PJB / KMS KDM / HTW Subagja / Mainaky Li / Tian
Quite frankly, verbally blunt and to be brutally honest I find Cai/Fu , LYD/ JJS, Ahsan/Setiawan in their peak periods to be much better than Gideon / Sukamuljo.
Its like comparing Milan team of the late 80s-90s with Madrid team that won 4CL in 5 years. I think they are of different eras. Imo, it was muche easier to win in the 80s or 90s. There is not much competition yet.
CaiFu/ LYDJJS retired too fast. Past 32, Cai is already gone. Not sure CaiFu won more titles than BoeMogensen. They just happened to win the bigger titles, a few of them. But BoeMo is the oldest WR1 pair still. So every pair has their own advantages. Just like Djokovic i saw the other day, he already broke everything, consistency , longest WR1, there are 6/7 statistics that made him better than the rest, also a winning record against both Nadal/Fed but the only missing is 2 more grand slams. But obviously everything compared, he is the absolute GOAT in Mens Tennis. i take CaiFu and BoeMo because they are of the same generation. Obviously BoeMo is still better than HendraKido.
I am very sorry to not like you. Here is a list I created based on how I feel and know about the sport. If something goes wrong, everyone will ignore it.
Really like you said. they all have different strengths. it is very difficult to judge one person better than another. therefore, the above list is just my personal feeling. However, I still have a very high appreciation of players over the last two decades. For the present era, competition is much more difficult than before. It is extremely difficult to maintain a form in all competitions. Therefore, I still rate the Gideon / Sukamujo couple as number 1
- Park Joo Bong - Kim Moon Soo - Cheah Soon Kit - Yap Kim Hock - Tian Bingyi - Li Yongbo - Rudy Gunawan - Eddy Hartono - Sigit Budiarto - Candra Wijaya - Rexy Mainaky - Ricky Subagja - Razif Sidek - Jalani Sidek - Hendra Setiawan - Markis Kido - Mohammad Ahsan - Hendra Setiawan - Hiroyuki Endo - Yuta Watanabe
@Dragon88 Did you seriously steal the Intro Text of my Blog Post for this thread? https://www.badmintonmag.com/best-badminton-player-ever-mens-doubles/ Ist that all you stole or are you using even more of my content? Pretty embarassing that you can't come Up with your own ideas.
Typical youtuber trying to get quick wins, with an inaccurate video title at that - he obviously never heard of many doubles legends It did get me thinking of an idea for a category though - something like shot precision or ability to kill the shuttle. e.g. look at Setiawan who has the same smash power as Yong Dae at 85%, but Setiawan definitely gets more winners from the back court with his awesome cross court smash angles. It's kinda mixed into creativity too.
