Well, that's kind of harsh. Momota has never done anything but give his best on court even through injuries and exhaustion. Let's give him the benefit of the doubt .
Yeah, he's still a nice sportsperson, through & through. Maybe it's his playing style that inevitably costs his physical tenacity after all these years of intricate performances bar 2020. Sent from my M2007J20CG using Tapatalk
Except that Momota's psyche doesn't work that way. He is not tactical; he will plough on until he is downed or succumbs to injury. And, @Quentin11, as his most vociferous fan, should know this by now.
Yeah saw him apologise to the fans for being in that state. I just hope he has enough time to heal from that now.
Good point. And which player, male or female who is the most tactical and a playing style that is less injury prone and can have a longer playing life?
Having beaten both Kunlavut and Popov, Lee Zii Jia is on course for a place in the last 4. If he can beat K. Srikanth tomorrow, he would likely play Lakhya Sen for a place in the Final on Sunday. Satwiksairaj Rankireddy/Chirag Shetty also withdraw....earning the Minions yet another place in the SF?
I think even though playing style contributes directly to the energy consumption, it does not relate to the longer playing life. For eg, Hans Kristian Vittinghus, Brice Leverdez etc are not technically sound but they are still playing. Both are 35. Still are able to beat so many youngsters. Even in one interview Hans kristian said when asked about his diving on court that his shots are in such a way that he had to dive on court more often than others. What I wanna say is that these players work hard on court and still maintain their body to such a level that they could maintain their level for such a long time.
Teo is having the time of his life, wreaking havoc against Kusu/Rambi. 20-17 despite his bad back injury. Sent from my M2007J20CG using Tapatalk
Pram/Yere are defensively very weak and still have lots to learn. Despite leading 11-8 at the interval of the rubber-set, they could not maintain the lead and yielded easily after the change of ends, winning only 6 pts after that.
Sadly, the World Tour Finals which is already limited to just top 8 most active cum accumulated rankings players are further diminished in status and prestige, not to mention lessened entertainment value, by a number of unexpected quick withdrawals in the preliminary rounds. It would be much better if any player who have in mind to be uncommitted to play the entire tournament submit their withdrawal notice sufficiently well in advance before the commencement of the event so that suitable replacements can be found. If not, the supposed grand finale of the World Tour Series is fated to be an anti-climax, thus losing its lustre and defeating the purpose of having such a much-touted occasion capping the year-end. I should expect the tournament organizer to look into some preemptive and/or punitive measures to prevent or at least minimize the impact in future.
I don't see why Axelsen, barring unforeseen circumstances, wouldn't want to take this tourney now that his most tricky opponent, Momota, is out of the way. Not that difficult or too much effort needed for him to pocket the top prize, I think, unless, say, Lee Zijia has other ideas.
