LS thought VA has committed a net fault putting his racquet up to block before LS hits it, but the umpire disagrees and insisted on giving the point to VA, to LS' chagrin.
Another retirement case continues in second day tournament raising the concern about the interest of this event to stage that forcing players can’t do their best due to cramped schedule that causing accumulated fatigue and injury problem. Perhaps, this is the worst edition of World Tour Finals. WS group B, Yamaguchi has pocketed semis ticket as the Japanese tackles her recent rival An SY who facing off each other frequently in last two months. The reigning World Champion and the on fire Chochuwong will seek group B winner tomorrow as Christophersen and Yvonne Li can't steal limelight to surprise the established opponent, lost two straight-games, the tall Dane is slightly better than German player. The Minions and Lee/Wang have good prospect through to knock out phase unless Astrup/Rasmussen could beat the Indonesian hotshots that delivered more complicated scenario. The rising Japanese pair Hoki/Kobayashi and Ong/Teo also going forward, the Malaysians battled hard to eliminate home second stringers Pram/Yere. MS group A has been concluded since only two players are involved, Axelsen defeats the Indian young gun Lakshya Sen. Group B, Srikanth has tough chance to pass preliminary round here who will take on Lee ZJ next. The former world number one deteriorated form is back against Thai prodigy, high possibility that Lee and Vitidsarn will secure a place in semis. Tang CM/Tse YS and the inconsistent local pair Jordan/Oktavianti will vie runner up position as Puavanukroh/Taerattanachai have scored victory twice. The Thai had roller coaster performance in final game, their handsome lead almost found futile at the end when HKG duo got second wind to narrow the deficit until 19-20.
Greysia Polii/Apriyani Rahayu should be able to beat the MAS's rising pair of Pearly Tan/Muralitharan Thinaah (now WR17!) to earn a place in the last 4. Ditto for the Minions Marcus Fernaldi Gideon/Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo as they need to win one set tomorrow to qualify. If they lost 1-2, they will end up with 3-2 in terms of games; compared to 2-2 for Lee/Wang and 2-3 for the Danes. As for Praveen Jordan/Melati Daeva Oktavianti, forget about it...they won't beat the HKG pair at their current wretched form.
Chang Peng Soon/Goh Liu Ying won 2 matches and have qualified for SF; and will pocket at least US$30k! A good turn-around in terms of form as they lost in R32 in 3 out of the last 5 tourneys (with QF finishes in the other 2).
Does anyone know how much it costs to enter these tournaments? I’m sure it can’t be free Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
No, if Yamaguchi lost 0-2 to Ongbamrungphan, she would be lost the table, although she won 2 matches. In contrast, An Se Young, lost 1 and won 1, and have a rest day today, but already qualified.
bwf does not allow the host/organizers to collect an entry fee for wt level events. the going rate hosts charge for is/ic/challenger levels is $150 flat rate for which the player can play all 3 events (singles/dbls/mixed) if they want to. the host can only hope to cover venue, umpire expenses, shuttlecock and court mats/setup with the fees. for wt level events the equipment sponsors usually put up a share (in partnership with title sponsor) or all of the prize money, shuttlecocks and courts. it's up to the host to pay for the venue, all umpire accommodations + about $50 per day/per ump for food, line judges (unless they get volunteers), player transportation to/from airport & to/from hotel to venue, any other nec'y personnel, provide the network and monitors for the scoring system, all cosmetic displays required by bwf, and many more miscellaneous costs req'd by bwf. bwf subsidizes some of the video cost, and the host pays the rest. the host can hire any video company they want to, but they have to work under img-cme's direction. the host pays bwf a sanction fee anyway (10% of the prize money) which pays for the referee team and covers some of the video 'subsidy' they 'grant' you. in the end bwf doesn't really pay for sh*t... yet they lord over the quasi team system. this is why i cut bwf ZERO slack in regards to the way they run the sport. fuc*ing amateurs... and the recent schedule proves they are clueless. https://360badminton.com/news/mathias-boe-do-you-care-about-the-players-well-being-at-all/
This is the most boring WTF so far. Injuries, allowing lousy players to play in such a big money event. BWF shd be more creative to ensure that the best top 10 players are in. Max 2 from each country. Let the top 50 players to vote in the 5 categories. No self vote. All countries wants the best players to play in a finale. Big purse needs big players who can win.
Yes there is. The purpose is to win your group. If you win your group, you cannot draw another group winner. Consequently, you can say the same about the group runner ups. They cannot draw another runner up. So if LS had beaten VA, maybe LZJ would have preferred being runner up in his group as well, which could have created an OG2012 situation.
Everyone here shd send a message to bwf to wake them up. Or to the sleepy president. I also wonder how he can be the president. Btw, I just did it 2 mins ago. Now is your turn to bombard them in fb message.
I see. I missed out on the group winner not drawing against the other group winner. So, in MS discipline, barring any upsets, it should be a LZJ vs VA final.
Well who d want to give up 5,000 or 10,000 USD prize money? Its probably more important than WorldChamp medal in this era. these players already know they cant make it through the GroupStage and yes that includes Momota , the most prominent ones.. 10,000 usd still a lot and badminton player career is short, even shorter during pandemics. for example, you know Indonesia TC team just got rewarded about 500,000SGD for winning TC by the main sponsor (BNI). However, yesterday when the president visited the team in Bali, its just appreciation. no talk of bonus by GV (which i expect about 1M dollars at least). There wont be any prize money for winning TC. So is TC bigger than 5,000 or 10,000 SGD? Maybe for once yes, after almost 20 years. But i doubt the players will care next time cos they wont get much. Its better to care about individual results etc. lest to say, someone like Ginting got injured after TC that contribut to three R1 exits. I dont think 500,000 is worth it after dividing by 13-14 playersz
