Seems they both have issues with Wong Chong Hann (GJW for sure did). That could be a factor here.

if this is true it is great news(!), as long as bam doesn't f*uck him over on tournament entries.

Why are they mad that he leaves? He will still represent the country even as an independent player. Dint a lot of the current independent players used to be in BAM anyway? Why all the drama lol

Probably because BAM has invested quite a lot on him?

Think of it as your beloved child that turns into an insolent one all of the sudden, after all the sacrifices you've made in raising him/her up.

BAM upset, for sure. Fans upset? Less obvious why.

    Viktor Axelsen

Imagine yourself being in a position where you don’t feel happy in your current workplace and you want something to change. You go express your thoughts to your boss and tell her/him you want to quit and find another place to work.
However your boss is not happy about your decision and since they the power to ban you from applying to jobs in your field, they might go ahead and do so. You just have to wait and see.
Just listen how crazy this is. This is year 2022. Is this what we want for our sport?

The bridges aren't really burnt down to the ground yet thus LZJ definitely should reconsider his choices before it gets worse for him.

the bwf quote is all one needs to read when wondering why the sport of badminton is 50 years, and possibly billions of dollars, behind all other relevant professional sports. in short the bylaw is saying only people 'chosen' by a member association are allowed to pursue badminton as a professional career.

it is blatant totalitarianism... relating to a system of government that is centralized and dictatorial and requires complete subservience to the state.

the only way to push badminton into the future is to replace all bwf executives... or for a business minded multi-billionaire lifelong badminton fan to take the sport over by starting a professional competition circuit and paying off the int'l olympic committee to recognize the new circuit. the bribing part is the easier aspect because all the ioc wants is money anyway.

it's great that players like axelsen are speaking out, but they don't have the financial resources to make any meaningful changes. by my estimates a jumpstart of $500m and the right professional sport executives is all it would take to start making bwf irrelevant within 6 years.

So far, BAM haven’t prevented him from playing any tournaments……..yet. It’s all speculation at the moment.

Lee ZJ, when HK stops having quarantine, please come to HK for food and sparring

Listening to the live announcement from BAM regarding his leaving the BAM body. BAM will not register him for BWF sanctioned tournaments for the next two years. This is a lose - lose decision in my opinion. There are many others who left BAM without much consequences. They may not be top players but they still continue to play in BWF sanctioned tournaments. So why these players were allowed to play? It is okay for BAM to ask them to leave BAM, or some players deem as not most top players have the choice to leave but not the top players. Doesn't this sound like double standard?

looks like we will not be seeing LZJ for two years
now its up to bwf to fix the player registration process

    based on press conference
bam representative said LZJ want to stay in bam only in his terms
having own coaches, own support system, own sponsors and planning the tournaments
which of course rejected by bam

This is the case where since I can't have you, I am going all out to kill your career. With this kind of mentality parents of future generations should think twice before entering their young kids into this kind of bondage.

This case can be the precedent that changes badminton. The world is changing as Victor Axelsen showed recently.
As for "investment" in a player. How about we make an agreement.
LZJ returns all the money invested in him to BAM, and they will give the best 10 years of his life back

omg... we won't know the truth of what happened until lzj decides to speak up.
humans will be living on mars before that happens.
you can thank bwf for making sure athletes have no control over their own career.
it won't change until bwf decides to change it's bylaws to reflect basic human rights: the right to control your own career.
