There is a lot of luck in sports. I mean, if the shuttle flopped the other way for Christie, and Christie won the 2nd set, everything changes and who knows what happens in the 3rd set. And then you have Ahsan/Kevin who had 3 match points. Ahsan/Kevin having a little extra luck in set 2, ensures at least a MD 2 match. When you move to the MD 2 match, I give India a 10% chance to win that. And then if it goes to MS 3, you wonder if Prannoy still has the injury from Friday. On paper, I think India was one of the top teams to win this Thomas Cup, but other teams were also in position to win. The problem with India, IMO, is their MD 2, that is a huge weakness. And the MD 2 match was avoided, thankfully. Now if India can patch up their MD 2, then I think they have a pretty solid team. There is always a little luck in sports, and things went India's way today, especially when Ahsan/Kevin coughed up 3 match points. So I would say there were several teams in contention to win this Thomas Cup, but sometimes you need karma to go your way, and I think India had that karma today, especially with Ahsan/Kevin's 3 botched match points. Anyways, congratulations to India. They were one of the best teams, and they made good on their opportunities.
This is on par with Korea winning the 2017 sudirman cup with a young team. An absolute underdog story Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Really happy to see the coaches as elated and animated as the young Indian squad Late to the party, was In tears of joy XD
I have an Indian friend who talks for hours when the point he was making could be done in 10 minutes.
They botched 4 match points actually. Had that Ahsan smash didnt hit the net. (Well he should have been in no rush). just like Gill said beauty of sports.
I remember that I didn't eat anything from 10h (I woke up) until now. The matches made me forget that. Good time to see Nishimoto on podium.
Loh Kean Yew wins World Championship. First time Singapore became World Champions. India wins Thomas Cup for the first time. What's next ? Argentina please win WC 2022 for Messi.
Proud member of the first category. Not a drunk per se, but I drink openly. Helps that drinking is celebrated in my culture not frowned upon lol (Punjab).
Oops, yeah. 4 match points botched by Indonesia. That's rough, lol. And MD 2 would almost be a gift for Indonesia. That brings up a MS 3 match, with a possible injured Prannoy. All that is the water under the bridge though for India. India did it, and they made Thomas Cup history. Congrats to India!
Ohh no. This feat makes only us and some cricket/other sports lovers happy. Most of the country won't know about it. It's a huge country.
Very very happy for Srikanth. He has endured so many close losses against all top players for the past two years. A bit sad watching Ahsan, but i am happy that IND won.
