    Momota's post match interview

“He was too good today. I tried to catch up little by little, but he was too strong. He has improved; his speed and quality of shots has gone up on every level. Coming into the final I wasn’t tense at all, so that was a big step forward, and something to take away.”

Dont you guys think that VA form has got to do with less travel times, him being independent player in Dubai.

Living and Travelling to EastAsia from Dubai is so much more convenient than say Copenhagen/Odense. Cant imagine those Denmark players travelling like that or Axelsen in the past.

With another Olympic gold, VA will be the greatest MS player.

No, Axelsen's performance was good at Olympic (before coming to Dubai).

I think Axelsen has problem with his ankle injury, after meeting surgeon to treat it definitively, he becomes he is now.

    >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

I see that Viktor catched up with Momota in All England 2020 final match. If Momota didn't get accident in Malaysia, I think the match can be 50-50 for both.

The result today just showed us:

Viktor's performance was improved so high.

Momota's performance was improved after back injury last year but still far from his best.

Well since the next game this week is still in Malaysia and the roster is pretty much the same, do you guys think anyone going to win consecutively?

Axelsen probably top of the list at the moment

Again true, but it seems to me that you are confusing age with prime. Danish players typically peak at a higher age than Asian players. I would argue that VA had not reached his prime at that time. Whether Momota had.. we’ll never know.

    Of course :D
But do you disagree? You don’t think VA has improved a lot since 2017 when he would regularly run out of gas?

Lots of pretenders in MS. VA rules them all.

I don't want to have an argument with you, to be clear. And I'm sure VA has improved since 2017, but I don't think he has improved as much as people say after January 2020.
I just think whatever improvement Viktor has made (and the Denmark Open Final 2021 made me think it wasn't all that significant against a clearly weakened Momota), his "prime" coincides with the - by far - weakest MS era I've ever seen.
There is one (1!) world class player right now. Other established top players have either retired (SWH, CL, SHY, 2017 and '18 had a very nicely playing LCW in his second spring) or regressed (KM, CTC, ASG, JC, KS, AA) and the ones left are really young and/or inconsistent (LKY, LZJ, LS, KV). I don't really see how that's even debateable. The level of play is woeful with Viktor being the only one left performing great badminton (and the occasional good performance from LKY and LZ, but occasional is the key word here). That's been going on for over two years now.
There are now signs that Ginting might be slowly getting back on the horse, but currently (more or less the last two years) there has not been much reason to run out of gas for Vikor, as you call it. The opposition doesn't require it.

Agree. And with the rest of your post as well. Weak MS at the moment. A couple of very good players with a high top level But only one consistent. But when people remember that the old Momota used to mop the floor with VA, I just want to add that it was also the old VA. That was the point of my post.

Regarding the gas. VA of 2017 could not play three weeks in a row. His current stamina is very good and he clearly prefers to play long rallies (and with minimal drift).

He is also a lot smarter about keeping his body in top shape. I have never seen him attempt to win more than 3 tournaments in a row. He will always withdraw from the 4th one once he has done well in the previous 3 to not risk injuries.

I told you LZJ was having hip injury..... someone here doubted.

He is very daring to play with injuries. ;)

They should put a gap of 1 week intervals between tournaments now. Else more injuries. ;)

Who cares about cost. Its time for them to use BnB etc to save cost for professional players. ;)

After 11-11 in 3rd game, Sindhu was more defensive than attacking. I don't know what kicked her mind at that time. But i have to say, Tai is nightmare to all the TOP players.

another controversy for bwf to resolve. the ball hits his thigh before racket. Hoki raised his arm to alarm umpire but ignored. A bit rediculous to use hawkeye. Wake up bwf. ;)
