Regardless, there’s nothing that can be done about it now. They just have to find a way to help him regain his previous form asap. Looks like the 10 months out did help his ankle recover?
According to Steen’s commentary, if the rankings are unfrozen now, it would drop to the 100s. That’s really scary. I wonder if he does well in the European tours and hopefully the tournaments in China are not canceled, will he be able to stay at least in the top 20 or 30?

A good win for Shi Yuqi over Chou Tien Cheng to reach the semifinals of Denmark open. From the score, it looks like he’s getting some rhythm in the tournament matches.

SYQ looked good in the match against CTC. He moved well. His shots were sharp and crisp. The forced time-off may be a blessing in disguise. Tougher tests to come, let's see how he will perform.

If you watch the match between JC and LZJ & LKY and VA, CTC is not as fast as them and wasn't going to trouble SYQ.

SYQ may have difficulties with the above 4 players should they play.

SYQ rarely have trouble beating CTC but he lost to him in the japan open, he is slowly improving. He hasn’t really played any of the top players since his comeback unless u count the lost to ginting in the world championship but it was literally like his 2nd match back i think?

Interesting to see Sun Jun again. Is Sun Jun now a personal coach for Shu Yuqi?

Very excited to see that and hope this arrangement is all the way to the Olympics. Sun Jun is a very intelligent tactician and great to see him in the coaching role.

Don't know, Cheung, if Sun Jun is officially his 'personal coach'; but, I get the impression the 2 of them have been working closely together from the time Shi Yuqi was suspended and sent back to Jiangsu right through all his recent tournaments.

It is becoming more evident SYQ is getting back to his old self. Agreed, he still shows inconsistency in matches, which I feel is mostly due to the lack of match practice for many months. In terms of technical abilities, and speed, I feel he is still up there with the best. Provided he has recovered well from yesterday’s match, he should go all out today with an underdog attitude.

I must say i haven't seen a player controlling the drift like SYQ is doing. He is still not there yet but he is showing some control. None of the MS players showed that lately

He did great! Next is French open, looks like he might meet axelson in the second round if he wins the first.

I really thought he hadn’t enough stamina left to last the final.

It is great for the game that he’s back. It throws up a good storyline for the bloggers and commentators.

Still seriously impressed with his English skills. He must have been doing a lot of online learning.

How long was he there for?

Went to listen again. Not much Singaporean accent detectable.

I read when he was younger, around 2007. About two years i think. He probably never spoke much Eng again after returning to China.

Realistically speaking, I'm afraid his R2 French Open match this week where he's slated to meet Viktor Axelsen will be a tough hurdle to clear. Not only is VA well-rested and raring to go and redeem himself for his fiasco on homeground last week at the hands of Loh Kean Yew in the QFs, 17-21, 10-21, I think Shi Yuqi currently is still not yet back to his former best, most certainly not in tip-top condition just coming back from one-year break, in addition, he also went the full distance winning the Denmark Open last week.

So I doubt SYQ is ready to take on VA just yet, he surely has his work cut out for him. Still, I hope to see him grind it out and emerge stronger from the experience, even in defeat, I'd be delighted to see him go down fighting.

Even before his ban, he could not really beat axelson, like the Tokyo Olympics for instance? So he probably doesn’t have too much pressure going in
