I just ordered a reel of the Gosen G-tone 5 from trumpnadminton.se (Swedish site) after reading about it here on the forum. Saw that they had a new super thin string, G-ton 58, 0,58mm. Ordered a pack of it to compare to G-tone 5. Should arrive early next week. I will update my findings here. Both will be strung at 25-27 pounds with Yonex 4 knot pattern.
Strings arrived yesterday. G-tone 58 felt super thin compared to G-tone 5. Both with a similar slightly textured feeling. Strung them after work today. Both on Arcsaber 10s. My feelings after a 1h session switching between them. The G-tone 58 had a much harder feeling. I think its the hardest I have tried. Could be because of how thin it is. When hitting smashes it felt like the shuttle left the stringbed before I could get much power in to it. Very easy to get a steep angle but hard to generate much power. Not that its bad just not as good as the G-tone 5 or my Zymax 68tx. At the net it is like nothing else. Felt like I had total control of the shuttle. I could angle and place it wherever I wanted with great accuracy and spin the shuttle more than with any other string. Drives and clears felt great, even my weak backhand clear got some decent power and speed. Because of the fear of miss hitting I was a bit timid under pressure on the deep forehand side, selecting to play drops and to the net. Lets see how they feel tomorrow.
Update: G-tone 58 still feels incredible at everything except smashes. Fresh off the machine 25-27pounds G-tone 58, 1414hz G-tone 5, 1366hz After 1 day and 1h play G-tone 58 1382hz G-tone 5 1334hz After 1day and 2,5h play G-tone 58 1354hz G-tone 5 1317hz measured with CarlTune
Today I was playing doubles with varied players. Hit a late flat push and miss hit at the top pf the frame. G-tone 58 broke I really liked them while they lasted. If I get abother set later I would probably try stringing them 1-2 pounds looser then my usual tension.
No I have not. But I have a reel of zymax 62 fire coming tomorrow. I have read it is not as thin as claimed but I will see how it feels.
That's a shame. Would have been cool to have a comparison. So far, out of thin strings, I liked Kizuna 58 the most. 2nd is Aerosonic. If G-Tone 58 is anything like G-Tone 5, I probably wouldn't enjoy it anyways.
Comparing to the cross string on a set of aerobite (should be aerosonic), then aerosonic is much smoother to the touch and clearly thicker aswell. Can't say much about how it plays yet.
Today I strung another Arcsaber 10 with aerosonic to compare. Conclusion: Feel: Aerosonic felt much much softer then G-tone 58. Repulsion: Felt like I got more power with Aerosonic on my smashes and flat shots. Grip: The bite/grip is not as good on Aerosonic. For me Aerosonic felt closer to G-tone 5 than G-tone 58. G-tone 58 feels closer to Aerobite at the net and flat shots but with a much harder feel on clears, drops and smashes. All strung at 25 main 27 cross.
I think I got a reading on 1470hz from Aerosonic fresh of the machine. Slightly higher than G-tone 58. Ive measured both strings untensioned and tensioned with one of theese: And Got reading on 0,61 unstrung for Aerosonic 0,6 strung and 0,58 unstrung for G-tone 58 and same when strung. Hard to measure for certain but trying multiple spots at a low even pressure not to squeeze the string.
