I was getting bored of swinging my tennis racket around with the bag over it, so i decided to duct tape a 2.5 lb weight to the head of the racket.
its going to break! the best way to add weight to a racket is to wrap the entire racket in a layer of synthetic grip then towel grip. This adds a lot of weight to the racket and still lets you play with it (if you plan ahead and make sure not to cover the grommets with grip) Seems liek you've found yet another use for ductape...
Well of course if you use a regular racket, it would break, but i used one of my steel rackets i found in the dumpster of my old high school gym. Of course I should of used a NanoSpeed 8000 or an Armortec 800 Offensive instead of a steel racket......
Even if it's steel, it could still snap off at the shaft/head juncture... with all that weight, it could happen pretty easily I would suspect. I had a steel/aluminum racket that broke off that way - and I didn't even have a 2 lb. weight duct taped to it... Which High School was it? (I'm a Willow Glen alum)
be careful just use a squash racket, its nice to improvise but do it properly, you might injure yourself or others. peace
that racquet looks scary. you can seriously hurt someone with that. a squash racquet would be a lot better just like what hte other posters said
I graduated silver creek last year. And right now i'm thinking that high school is the worst kind of preparation for college :crying:
...just a thought...would that work properly? cause from how i see it...you've just made your racquet super head-heavy. so...in the end...you're just increasing the momentum and not resistance which only makes a shot hard to start and stop. it might help you in control...but shouldn't strength training be done with an overall heavier racquet or resistance like a racquet cover or squash racquet like other people say?...anyway...just an observation...
take a racket and cover it with towel and normal grip. This will make the racket considerably heavier, however make sure you leave room to string the racket. Jon Christiansen, former number 1 in the world doubles player, (can't remember how to spell his name) brought a racket like that when he came to Calgary to coach for a camp 3 years ago. It worked really well.
...i dont' get it...what does the grip you put on the racquet have to do with being able to string it?...
Hey perhaps another way may be swinging with ur head cover on. It gives lots of resistence and perhaps a way of training?
