Cool discussion...........................whilst we wait for the results, which may come in next morning, this is really engaging discussion.
pengsan = BAHASA MALAYSIA, the national language of MALAYSIA pingsan= BAHASA INDONESIA, the national language of REPUBLIK of INDONESIA just like colors = U.S. English colours= U.K English
Aiyah, I think ffc understood already la btw, just to answer ur question ffc, orang cina and chinese-etnic are same meaning. chinese got two meaning, one is people who are from china, another one is chinese-etnic people overseas. let's back to the result.
Pengsan is the correct Malay word in Malaysia. Pingsan maybe is the Indon word. BTW, ffc2002 are you really from Indonesia? What race are you? Sure not orang cina right? Do you know there is orang cina living in Indonesia like in Malaysia and Singapore.... or I should say around the world.
i don't think so..how about Taufik Hidayat?..Sony Dwi Kuncoro?.. Taufik came from Pangalengan, East Java, and Sony came from Surabaya.. How about Markis and Hendra?..Sigit Budiarto?..how do u explain that?.. ok,lets finish talk about this..how about the result...

all is lost first off, nouns do not equal names...a name is not a noun. In chinese, names are made up of characters, which can be nouns, verbs, adjectives etc etc. After the name is complete, it is not known as a noun. A noun is an object, a thing, such as a tree, or a badminton racquet. A noun is not a name. susi susanti is not in the chinese dictionary. it is her indonesian name. names are usually not in a dictionary, but the individual parts that make up the name may be words, and therefore could be in the dictionary. wei is in the chinese dictionary ren is in the chinese dictionary fang is in the chinese dictionary but "wei ren fang" is not in the chinese DICTONARY, it could be in an encyclopedia, but shouldn't be in a normal, standard dictionary. neither is "allan budi kusama" in the chinese dictionary, first becuase it is not chinese (language) and secondly it is a name. when wei ren fang took allan budi kusama to be his name, the are not the same words, just in another language. it is not the same as tree=shu(in madarin) badminton racquet=yu mao qiu pai(in mandarin) it is just a name. For example if i moved to USA from china, and wanted a US name, I would possibly choose one that sounds similar to my chinese name, or has the same meaning, or one with neither the same sound nor the same meaning. It is a name they chose. What is so confusing about it? chinese can describe both the race (ethnic group) and the citizenship. therefore indonesian-chinese in this case means indonesian citizen (passport, ID card etc etc) and chinese ethnic group. This could be because that person's grandparents moved to indonesia. Even though he was born in indonesia and have indonesian citizenship, his ethic group is still chinese. ethnic group describes your heritage. for example, white people (caucasians) can be british, french, german etc etc etc. therefore the same can be for chinese ethnic group. you are chinese, but are also german, french etc etc if u are citizen there. there is another chinese word "hua qiao", which describes this idea, of chinese ethnic people who are born abroad, and therefore have some connection to china, even though they are also "foreigners". this could be orang cina.
the results that i saw mix doubles QF xie/zhang(CHN) bt Koo/Ooi(MSIA)16-17,15-9,15-7 lee/lee(korea) bt anggun/yunita(INA)17-14,15-1 women singles QF xie xing fang(CHN)bt yao jie(Holland)13-12,8-0(RTD) wang chen(HK)bt Zhu lin(CHN)11-8,11-5
Yeah.. I was waiting for the rest of the results too ... This thread is supposed to be about the Hong Kong Open.. not a lecture about the nationality of the country's players.. But to be honest, I was a little offended about what ffc said.. Let's just resolve this already.. Maybe he was just confused about Malaysia's multiracial nationalities.. Even some of my friends get confused too..
who cares Helo Helo!! sick of all this please concentrate on Hong Kong Badminton Open or badminton or we might not be able get the latest results; all thanks to the damn 6* HK Open organisers which does not provide live scores
well,i think that's ok to discuss this race and nationality until we have some result.. don't you think that we just wasting time if we're just wait the result?.. when we discussed about this we learned so many thing...( i guest) and it has relationship with our favorite player isn't?.. to share s'thing that not all the people knew about that.. thx for sharing with me..(until we wait for the result..)
Wht about Tang Sin Fu, Liem Swie King, Rudy Hartono,Hendrawan,Tony Gunawan to name a few.....those players you mentioned yes are native Indonesians..... I wouldn't put Taufik, Sony, Sigit as 'greats' yet......suprisingly you mention Sigit but not Candra.....so you must somehow know that Candra is not 1st generation Indonesian....
Who's ffc ?? Hi guys, This is a forum on badminton, not race, creed, politics or religion. Besides, I will tend to forgive ffc, like his name suggest, it has two Fs and one C, so there you are....
i really found it quite funny that after all the explanation given..ffc2002 still couldn't understand wat we are trying to tell him..actually do he understand english??????????
Thnx may I know where did u see it? &*#$@ another Malaysia casualty. YJ retired due to injury or exhaution? How about 2nd half of MS?
