Thanks for the pics Phoenix. Something I still can't get used to is the Asian Players applauding themselves. :p

Well, I don't think they do that to applaud themselves. They applaud the crowd. Kinda like saying "thank you for your cheers and for your support." :)

Wouldn't it have been cool if Boonsak won against Lin Dan? Well, maybe eventually. ;)

LOL, at my club, we just got the same Forza shirt (white/Dark/Orange) for the competition team, didn't really like it before. But I do now :D

OK, if that's the case, then I retract my former statement. But still, to me, there's no need to applaud the crowd; if they want to thank the crowd, they can do it in other ways like blow kisses at the crowd (a bit extreme, I admit), salute the crowd or bow to the crowd. So far, Badminton is the only sport where I've seen players applaud, just seems kinda weird. :p

Though I like Boonsak, I still wanted LD to win. :)

Hehe because you misunderstood. They are not applauding themselves. They are actually showing their appreciation to the crowd for cheering. The clapping and "hitting racquet string against palm" actions are directed at the crowd.

Yeah some players do that (bow), especially Zhao Jianhua.

And we all know the trademark salute action from Lin Dan. Having read your post now I think maybe he actually directs it to the crowd? Hmm I better pay attention next time.

But one thing I know is that in many Asian countries, a lot of times when a crowd applauds to a person, he/she will also clap his/her hands in the direction of the crowd.

Still no pics of Yao Jie in her sexy outfit? Come on!

Btw, Xie Xingfang has nice legs, if only they were not so thin. If she could develop some flesh (or moderate fat) in her upper thigh and lower torso, she will be the Anna Kournikova of badminton. Slurp...

do you think the World Cup can return to its former glory and attract all the worlds top players like the world champs and world grand prix finals? I know the GP finals aren't happening any more though

yeah, they're applauding the crowd and their opponent i think

Well I hope so. I liked it years ago when there were 4 main titles to be won (like Grand Slam in tennis): All England, World Cup, GP Finals, World Championships. Now there's also the Olympics. Winning all the titles at least once will make a true legend. The badminton sport needs superstars, not just stars who win just one or two main titles in their careers. Superstars will become icons. It's easier to promote icons than to promote the game itself. Well that's what I think.

But let's try to make World Cup a consistent event first please.

if i remember right, candra raised his hands and semi clap his racket too when ca and fu were celebratiing their win. Candra and sigit look happy on the podium. Very humble pair.

ca/fu look like in top form in this world cup.
