20$? Unless that's a typo, it's definately not low cost... That's about what I'd pay for a tube of AS40...

As we are talking about feather shuttles in general, I'd like to pop in a question: Given the tube is still sealed and untouched (i.e. foil still intact, etc), how long can you store them?

This is the definitive thread on feather shuttles (the wonders of the search function):

    http://www.badmintoncentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=19359

When mentioning brands like Sealion, Space Arrow, RSL, Victor, don't forget that these brands usually have 3 grades of shuttle. Enervac, did you pay $20 for Sealion Gold or Silver?

My favourite for price/performance is Space Arrow WS-1 at S$20

If AS-40 in Germany is SGD $20, thats pretty amazing, even cheaper than Singapore. In Singapore S$20+ for a tube of shuttles is considered normal and the shuttles under $20 are usually the lower grade ones.

Well, that's the price i get at my local badminton dealer. He is supplying some clubs in the local area with shuttles, so he orders large quantities and gets a larger discount/rebate, I guess...

    All prices in CDN dollars

Sea lion black label (C1101 i think - IBF Approved) about $19/tube
    Now switched to:
Aeroplane SG1130 for $17.50/tube (Fantastic birds for the price!)

    contemplating...
RSL tourney 1 (golden tube it think) for about 18.50/tube

On a side note...an RSL rep came to my badminton club...apparently they're making a big push into north america. Here's the canadian website (rep is in montreal) http://www.rslcanada.com/

    Cheers

Yonex AS-50, Ashaway Black (v. good value) or Snow Peak for me. I tried carlton AG-PRO 10s but they weren't very durable, even though they were meant to be the best in the range

The rep let us try out the birds (The Tourney 1). They're terrific. Very durable birds and definately live up to the reputation and from the stories some of the club members were telling me.

We also were able to try their racquets. Many said that there was too shock/vibration when striking the shuttle. I never tried them. I'm happy with my 2 MP99s and 2 BK M-2010s:D. Only racquets that peek my interest is Taneepak's E-1000 and the new Nanospeed 9000X

Please check the site I recommended earlier (http://www.nordsport-shop.de/). I contacted them earlier today, and they were willing to sell RSL Tourney 1 for 13,90 euro per tube. I think that is the best price from them, no matter how many you buy. Maybe you can get the transportation for free if you buy 100 tubes? Their prices for Yonex racquets are quite competitive too (and list prices negotiable).

Sorry, disagree, the thread is not definitive. While I applaud NetAsia's analysis, it is not applicable for many players.

For instance, NetAsia stated even the least durable shuttle could last 1 game. I've never played with a shuttle that could last one game. We go through an average of 4-5 shuttles per game, no matter how good/durable the shuttle is.

Also, the ratings are not consistent and/or have different meanings for different people. For instance, the AS-40 gets an "A" for durability but in the comments, "Yonex AS-40...Gives excellent flight path, but not very durable." Not very durable for me would get a rating of "C-" or lower. I would never rate a not very durable shuttle any higher than "C+", certainly not "A".

Continuing, the Victor Green received an "A" for durability as well and lasted 1.5 games. I hit many, many Victor Greens and there's no way it will last 1.5 games for me. In fact, we use about 5-6 Greens per game.

    So, it's all relative. :)

i play with sealion (black and white colour)
and for more serious games , we play with yonex aerosensa 4 . but no longer produced i guess .. now we just use sealion for all.

from my place , 1 tube of sealion black and white is MYR 42
1 tube of sea lion white and red is MYR 33
1 tube of aerosensa 4 is priced at MYR 64 but after discount is MYR 48

5-6 victor greens per game? Cannot believe

U use 5-6 victor greens per game? so meaning, every 2-3 points, u break a shuttle to crap. Victor green is quite a durable shuttle. It cannot be destroyed in 2-3 points!!! unless the shuttle is dry/brittle or bad batch. even pro sometimes do not change shuttle after 3-4 points.

    Please explain

Usually there are between 20-25 total points per game. We do not win 15-0. So the shuttles break every 4-5 points. Some times more, some times less. Just depends who's playing. If it's a game with 4 attackers/smashers, we can go through 1 tube in 1 game. So if we split and go 3 games, we'll go through almost 3 tubes in one match. :( The other day, two attackers played two defenders and in one match they went through 26, yes twenty six RSL Tourney No. 1 shuttles. The match lasted 90+ minutes. Excellent attackers vs. excellent defenders = very long rallies.

The Victor Green is a good shuttle but not great. If $10/tube, a very good deal. But for $9/tube, I'd prefer the King FS-707.

I know the answer to this based on how thorough you are with your dinking, do you hydrate the shuttles properly? The number you quote sounds high. I was playing with someone today and he took 3 shuttles out from warm ups to before the score got to 10 points in the first game and then I took one of mine out at that time and we played with that shuttle for the next couple of games. Granted it was not a hard hitting match and he said he didn't know shuttles needed to be steamed....

Yes, my doubles partner and I hydrate our shuttles but none of our opponents do (at least not to my knowledge). With that said, we've noticed our shuttles last longer. :D

I go through approximately one tube of shuttles each time I play on week days. On the weekend, it could be up to 3 tubes. I guess I should be called "Bird Killer" rather than Dinkalot. :p

Hey hey what do you mean by hydrating the shuttles to make them last longer?
