I have a Canon ZR80 and have been trying for sometime to sychronize my computer to the camcorder. I have the nessecary attachments can't download and drivers from the Canon website. Whenever I plug the camcorder through a USB my computer says unknown device attached. Can anyone help?

Are you on Windows XP? If so the movie maker program should detect the presence of a DV device and it knows right away how to control it. I'm a little puzzled actually. You say it's a DV camera, but the standard connection for video is a IEEE 1394 (i.e. Firewire), and not USB. Is the USB being used for video? or just the still pictures?

normally, u don't need to download a driver form canon. coz a software and driver cd should be included.
let me see if i can get one for u from canon website. :)

don't forget about usb 2.0! ;) it's faster than firewire.

seems the only software/driver for your zr80 from canon website is the ImageBrowser 5.5a Updater for Mac OS X!!!

but according to the manual. your camcorder is equipped with the standard picture transfer protocol (PTP). it allow u to download jpeg images (only jpeg) by connecting the camcorder to a pc via an usb cable without installing softwares from the software cd.
just try it one more time and see whether u can have one more removable device icon turns up inside "my computer".

for video capturing form your zr80. u gotta install those softwares as well as using the firewire connection. :)

ya there is no removable media drive in my computer. i think maybe my usb is too old or something. its the same one i used from my first mp3 player like 4 years ago, just coincidence that it fits the camcorder

don't share the port with your mp3 player. let's try connecting your dv cam with another usb port instead. that might be alright.

FireWire 2 is faster than USB 2.

when i say 'same one' I mean the same usb cord that connects from device to computer. I've tried two usb ports. Just get the same unknown usb device in the bottom right bar next to the clock.

firewire 800;) Obviously not an Apple man. :p

What do you mean by this exactly.
Try connecting to the computer via firewire.
The other thing I'd like to know is your objective. Are you trying to download video or just pictures?
