Actually it make not much difference in the draws for both LD and LCW. But its easier to make it in the Finals when ur the 1st seed.
Opportunities knock As long as LCW can keep his work ethics then he will succeed one day. I can see his improvement on each of his recent tournament, good sign! Beating Bao Chun Lai and Chen Hong in straight set is a great achievement and being world #2 is as good as #1 as he will avoid Lin Dan until the end, if both of them get that far. Lin Dan has been very consistent and I am glad to see LCW is heading to that direction too. Now lets hope the other amogos Hafiz and Kuan Beng Hong can step up and assist LCW to clear some of the hurdles in future tournaments. I can feel Chen Hong and Bao Chunlai are on the downword slide, this is the great opportunity for other players to capitalize.
I dont think he need to win to be the No. 1 anyway I will leave it to the sifu mathematician hcyong to give the scenario for LCW to go back to No. 1
Hey hcyong, Does LCW need to win the thai Open to retain No.1? How much pts does players earn for entering the last 16, Quarters/Semis/Final berth?
actually winning the thai open which is a 3 star event will only provide 3600 points, which will not be enough to displace lin dan from the top since the lowest score lcw can replace is 2940.
Yes, khelben is right. I have said before in this thread that even if LCW wins the Thai, he will not get back his Number 1, but he will be very close to Lin Dan. So, no matter what happens (who wins, who pulls out, etc), it will remain LD, LCW, PG after the Thai Open. The Thai Open is only 3*. The coming 6* Korean and Hong Kong Opens will matter a great deal. Anyone, with a snap of a finger, can tell me which week's ranking is used for WC seedings? I am too lazy to search.
According to my never-fail Desktop Calculator (can even count with 2, 8 or 16 fingers), 40,903 - 39,993 is not 10.
F1 rankings are way too simple. You get 10 pts for a win, 8 for second, followed by 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 and 1, and you just keep totalling them and see who has the biggest number. In badminton, you get points for a win, runner-up, semi-finalist, etc but the points you get depends on the level of the tournament as well (from 7* all the way to 1*, then A and B). Secondly, we don't just total everything up. For each player/pair, we only total up his/her/their 10 best tournaments (including maximum of 1 team tournament) and see who has the most points. This is presumably to prevent me from taking part in a thousand kiddie B tournaments a year and end up as world no 1.
ohwhh.... I remember reading some articles that Lee Chong Wei would remain number one at least he got into the final... But it's okay though, being number one is just something on the surface, and I'm pretty sure that Lee Chong Wei can smudge it off soon... His performance has just never gone down
That's greaat for Lin dan =) I'm going to go at the worldchampionship in madrid, and i'll be looking for himm firstly =p LIN DAN JIA YOU !!!
