He was born Sept 11, 1988 in Hwasun, Jeollanam-do. He is 180cm tall and weighs 72kg. He started playing badminton in his second year of elementary school so this is his 11th year in the sport. He feels the best part of his game is his defense and his net play but that he lacks power. He hopes to be a schoolteacher or coach after retiring. This info is probably based on a questionnaire or something that the national team gave these kids. It says his first international tournament was the German Junior International in 2004 but the KBA website elsewhere shows him as having competed in the same tournament in 2003. The KBA site says he placed 3rd in men's and mixed doubles in Germany in 2003 and 1st in both those disciplines at the same event in 2004. So one of those was his first international tournament. His name in Chinese is 李龍大.
thanks event... I visited the korea badminton website for his details but it happens to be written in Korean
Yes. That happens a lot. There is a lot of handy information up there. I wish there were a site like that for other badminton nations. I found BAM has next to nothing on their players and they do have nothing on the ones who don't train at BAM.
Lee Yong-dae at the Korea Open I actually only saw him once on TV when he played at the Thailand Open. I saw him in person last week here at the Korea Open and he's getting to be popular among the badminton enthusiasts here. Since he's still young, he has a boyish charm. In the pictures on the links posted on this thread, I think those were old pictures. His hair is now a little longer with some bangs and his built is more formidable. After the match that night, I saw him drag their ice box (for cold water and energy drinks, I guess) down the stairs to the 'restaurant section' of Jang Chung Gymnasium. So, even when you are the national champion, you're not exempted from doing menial chores, I guess. I have pictures of him during their play, but I have problems posting them...
You guys might be surprised...but, according to my calculation, Jung Jae Sung/Lee Yong Dae is going to be the no 1 seed for the upcoming WC in Madrid. It's an amazing achievement considering the fact that this pair were only formed in January this year
Slight error...hehe...Choong/Lee could be the top seed if they win the title today...too bad they lost! So, the Malaysian pair has to settle as the no 3 seed. Fu/Cai will be no 1 followed by Jung/Lee as no 2!
