Hopefully Bao and Chen Hong will win!
Well most probably Bao will win. But I'd like to see Chen Hong beat the arrogant Taufik.

Taufik and Sony are the two best Indonesian MS.
Bao and Chen are arguably behind both Chen Jin and Lin Dan in the Chinese MS order.

Go Malaysia! Go China! Win Win Win!

But frankly I don't have much confidence in our boy LCW. He's just not there yet, eventhough he and his coaches always think he is.

I've watched badminton matches for years. Everytime a player or coach says that "this is our best chance to win blablabla...", the results would mostly turn out to be bad for them. The current Malaysian badminton national team is quite a big talker compared to previous generations, but with not much actual on-court success. Irrational confidence is not a good thing. That's why we always crumble when it matters most. Always loosing out in finals, it's not even funny.

Team China is different. They have a good system, good players, consistency, and they are rationally confident (not just talking big). They approach a tournament by training hard and having systematic preparations. And they deliver.

And the last time Malaysia ever won anything big in badminton, it was the Thomas Cup in 1992 under two head coaches from China. Other than that, we are at most the runner-up (World Championship runner-up, Olympics silver medal, bla bla bla).

I think it's a cultural thing. We are more relaxed and laid back (happy go lucky). Look at the responses in this forum, almost all are overly optimistic (Wong Miew Choo to beat Zhang Ning? My oh my...). The players must first recognize their weaknesses instead of boasting, before they can really improve and reach the top.

I agree that a player or coach must learn to be more humble in public and not talk too much about winning before the real thing. Let the player prove himself/herself on court. It is important to have confidence and self-esteem but don't brag and become too over-confident. The result will show.

i think there have been no real surprises in the MS and MD, except for CCM/KKK unfortunately having to pull out.
the only real interesting match in the MD is LP/JR vs JJS/LYD, that'll be a cracker.
also, in MS, the only real 50-50 is TH vs CH, yeah, i'll give the indonesian the edge here as well.
the others should not be bothered too much ...

    R/16 for INA's participants:
    - Luluk/Alven vs Spitko/Fuchs (08.45pm--JKT time)
    - Nova/Lilyana vs Koo KK/Wong PT (09.50pm)
    - Sony vs BCL (11.10pm)
    - Markis/Hendra vs Choong TF/Lee WW (11.45pm)
    - TH vs CH (22/09/06 ; 12.30am)
Wow,more thrilling in this round although too late hour for INA's time.No serious hurdle for both Luluk/Alven and Nova/Lilyana to continue their step in QF.Unpredictable result for Markis/Hendra, MAS's veteran duo absolutely will pump up two times their efforts to keep MAS's hope after withdrawal of their team-mates yesterday. And Sony, still unconvincing to beat BCL.Maybe this is a time to correct his record against him.Last but not least,Big match for MS division at R-16--> TH's real hard-test to defend his crown is starting from this round. Good Luck for them, Maju terus-Pantang nyerah!

If all players and coaches are humble, the sport will be very, very boring.

Being over-confident, big-mouthed and the likes are the spices of the sport..

I strongly encourage players and coaches to be "over-confident and big-mouthed". That makes the competition more colorful, entertaining, and, last but not least, makes opponents "hot" and "itchy to fight"...That is the core spirit of competition in sport....:)

Let outsiders, observers and big fans (like Indra) do all the talking and verbal fighting to make the match more interesting! ;)

Look at Mohd Ali now, he can't even defend himself. :(

To a certain extent it is good for the sport but a little too much can be annoying. Remember too much of anything can be bad too.

It really depends on where you're standing, your point of view.

The IBF officials would like over-confident and big-mouthed players, colorful players to hype up the game of badminton. Controversies attract audiences. Rivalries attract audiences.

On the other hand, to the player himself/herself, over-confidence and being big mouth do him/her no good. It's good for the show of course, but not good to his/her medal collection. Let your game do the talking. If you win, then you can afford to talk. But I just don't understand players/coaches who talk before they win.

I don't remember any MAS players or coaches boasting, just the fans trying to pump up the chances. In fact, I'm sick of hearing them saying 'We hope to go one further', which meant they won't win the title! What's wrong with saying, " We 've worked hard and feel in great shape. Of course , we're gunning for the title but anything can happen. We'll see."
I'm sorry you lack confidence in LCW. Malaysia has every reason to be proud of him. Mind you , I believe he went to HKO , like a lone ranger, without any MAS MS spoilers to help him.And he reached the final because his aim was to play LD. You think LCW got to where he is through luck? He has to work thrice as hard as LD to reach the final .Would LD dare come to MO on his own or even with just one escort?CHN's MS confidence is so lacking, LD must be accompanied by CH and CJ. MO, CTO and HKO! Correct me if I'm wrong.Pls give credit where credit is due.
