    Hi,
    I have a rare question..
I´m a very hard hitting person and if im playing a quicker person that does not smash as hard as I am, should I (if its up to me) use fast or slow balls?
I have been thinking about this for a while.
Because if I smash with a slow ball I still smash harder than him but the on the other side I might reach up more balls than with a fast ball since my opponent is quicker.
but if we play with a fast ball I might win the balls quickly with only one smash..
Which should I choose if its up to me???

Would be thankful for an answer.

If you are an attacker/smasher, you always want to play with a faster "ball".

it really depends on the temperature or climate. shuttlecocks have many speeds to choose from. when you have a tropical climate around 32-34 C then a speed of 76 or 77 is preferable. but in your case you need a higher speed i think

Did you mean by using fast grade and slow grade shuttles? That's two steps from each other.

PS: Normally there are: fast 2 - fast - middle - slow - slow 2.

lol we call them 'cocks' a lot, so it sets up for some funny moments when we are out eating such as "so how many cocks did you break last night?" and etc.

on-topic: maybe you should have a rotation of birdies. You can start of with some slow ones and let him think that he can return you smashes then switch to a fast one when it breaks. :D

    I prefer fast ones..78 is enough i guess.76 is too slow.77 is ok..but i love 78 the most.

It deepens on the atmosphere of the court, you should in theory test the shuttle for speed before play by playing an underarm drive from base line to base line. In many cases though this makes no difference as only one speed of feather is available.

True, but tipping is important, especially in variable weather/humidity conditions.

Personally, I like a fast bird, which almost touches the short service line when driven from behind the opposite side of the court. Usually I'll have to tip every fourth or so to get this, though we use fast birds to start with.

Fast birds reduce the risk of injury as you don't have to put as much power into clears, flicks, etc., to get them all the way back. Which is very important for me right now, playing through a torn bicep...

Umm, I believe you have your numbers the other way around.

    76 is faster than 77
    77 is faster than 78

Assuming the location is from China as your location saids, 78 is the incorrect speed because it's ment for colder places like Canada where 78 and 79 would be used.

In the U.S., the higher the number, the higher the speed.

    Oh yeah you're correct.

I forgot why I said that now but I think I remember why. If the incorrect number of the shuttle is being used in a certain region, either goes too slow or too fast. In that case, what I said in my intial post would of been correct under those cases, which I was trying to say.

I think that's the qualtiy of the shuttle cocks, 10 being the not as good and 50 being the best :) :D

Quality and price, As50's being Yonex top quality "international tournement level" shuttle and 10's being not worth the price that Yonex charge.
