I play in thailand wher it is hot and humid and I sweat much more than the thais-many times the court becomes unplayable due to my sweat all over the floor.

Its like once I reach a certain stage the water just pours out of me and even using the mop is hopeless.

Are there any special shoes, clothes that somehow deal with the sweat better than others. Now I take extra socks, extra shirt and shorts but stll end up sweating oll over the place.

i use dri fit shirts already--have not tried any dri fit socks
it can be brutally humid here and inside a hot badminton room with no ventilation theres not much chance for evaporation

I wear Under Armour "Heat Gear Loose" (HGL):
    http://www.underarmour.com/ProductFullLine.cfm?site_id=1&dept_id=1&coll_id=322

HGL is designed to minimize and whisk away sweat.

I only bring one HGL shirt, usually a tank top. I bring about 4-5 microfiber towels and just wipe myself down. It's very effective and I don't need to bring 10 shirts.

Given that you are playing in Thailand, sweat due to the hot and humid weather will be unavoidable. You'll probably need to bring many shirts but I feel the HGL will minimize the problem.

    Good luck. :)

one of my problems is that my socks and shoes end up totally saturated and at thst point changinf shirts does not help--i have tried extra socks-that helps but I was really hoping for some special shoes that does not absorb sweat-cause i walk around making water footprints-even if i have changed other clothing--i also thought about -taking a quick shower and complete change of clothes while I skip a game

hmmm...have you tried using those foot powders that prevent perspiration? also, there are socks that "wick" away moisture etc...might be worth a try...

Caveat: those dri-fit type socks are slippery. I would prefer to wear cotton socks, not slip and change them a few times. :)

there are shoes that have "drainage systems" although these are primarily used for the outdoors...like adventure racing. there's a TNF (the north face) shop at siam paragon. there's a model there that might fit the bill...it's called M Philter...here are the features:

    • Specifically engineered for a multitude of fast-paced activities where drainage and breathability are a must.
    • [IMG]UPPER Water-resistant synthetic nubuck and open-air sandwich-mesh upper
    • [IMG]Molded rubber hell-support strap
    • [IMG]Dual-density internal footbed/midsole combination with molded drainage channels
    • [IMG]BOTTOM Non-marking HydroTrak™ rubber outsole with TPU injection-molded shank and integrated drainage ports
look it up...it's got good looks and is my fave brand...:D

Maybe you should stop playing badminton in a pond ? :D

I am not sure if this would help: wear multiple layers of socks. I wear a pair of ankle socks inside the mains socks. I imagine if i needed to I could wear 3 layers of socks and it would still be fine. I didn't wear 2 layers to deal with sweat specifically as I didn't sweat too much. I did wanted to stop the damp socks rubbing against my feet causing the skin to peel. The rubbing also causes very thick toughened skin. Wearing the two layers curtainly felt dry, and the skin no longer affected by badminton playing in any way. I have seen the feet of other badminton players, and they were in terrible states. A little thought on the mechanics of feet, socks, and shoes is all it will take to extend the life of your skin as well as the shoes. Multiple layers of socks significantly reduces the friction damage to your feet, and shoes.

Yep, I wear two pairs of cotton socks. Cotton so my feet don't slip and slide while minimizing friction at the same time.

dont use drifit socks,i use 2pairs of cotton socks at a time, drifit dont work as good as cotton wen it comes to mosture and slip. brink lots of extra pairs and use footpowder for sweat or athlets feet, it keeps my feet dry and cool.

Pan sneakers? I don't know about those. I use coolmax socks, usually these ones. On occasions where I forget my Coolmax socks, I end up having to use the cotton ones I wore to the gym or I have to buy socks at the gym and there are no Coolmax socks sold in Korea for sports. I find that on such occasions, my socks just fill up with sweat as never happens with my Coolmax ones. The Coolmax socks do get soaked on the hottest days, but still not as fast as the cotton ones do. One thing other players there do is take off their shoes when they're waiting for a match. They change into slippers and then put their shoes back on when a court comes available.

I have no problem with slippage with my Coolmax socks, except when my shoes are too big. The insoles on Yonex shoes have a good texture which may be part of it.

I think the slippage they experienced was to do with the inner socks slipping inside the outer socks. This is exactly how the 2 socks system should work: let the socks suffer the friction rather than you feet or shoes.

I have no idea what kind of inner socks I have. They don't appear to be cotton, as all the cotton socks I have become hard and tough after a few washes. My inner socks remained thick and soft after months of use and wash (thinking about it now, washing brand new socks before using them might help stop the initial slipping). Though, they did slip when new. I think for best comfort and skin protection, the inner socks should be thick and soft, and probably non-cotton.
