after working for a few months while out of school and saving my money, it is time to buy a new racquet. I have been playing with mp-88 for the last six months and i am looking for something a little more head heavy (i think). Power isn't really an issue since my smash is pretty fast, but my net game could use a little work. I usually play doubles, but am moving into singles. I think that the mp-99 would be great but am wondering if it is better than the mp-100 and what style of play it is designed for. Thanks for all the help:)

Do you mean in the Muscle Power series? Because they are some racquets that have partially muscle power frames on them.
If you want something a little head heavier, I suggest you go try out the Ti-10!....
But if you really do want a racquet from the Muscle Power series, sorry, can't help you there because I have only tried the MP77 and MP100.

Pls note that i have only owned and tried mp100 SP, MP 77 SP and mp90 JP

in my opinion, yes the muscle power 90 is the best one around... and it suits whatever game you play...

It's whippy, it's fast, great for generating a lot of power in a short distance... therefore great for doubles.

The shots produced by this is very stable and control is good (ti10JP better) therefore, making it great for singles...

Thanks for the info:) So do you think that the ti-10 is better than the mp-99 for singles play?

    yup
ti10 better than 90 for SINGLES...
it's stiffness gives you the accuracy!

but overall, 90 is better coz you can use it for singles and doubles!

    Well . . .

    Here is my personal opinion:

MP-90 JP is as stiff as Ti-10 CP. However, Ti-10 CP has much more weight concentrated at the frame area compared to MP-90 JP.

Control on both racquets is similar.

Power generated from both racquets is similar. But . . . I have a much easier time in generating powerful shots with Ti-10 CP with its head-heavy balance. A slight mishit is unforgiving with the MP-90.

Feel is very dependent on the type of string one chooses.

I have yet get used to MP-90 JP.

Once again this is only my opinion.

    Re: Well . . .

i disagree! ti10 is so much more stiffer than mp90!
the whole "new technology" with mp90 is the flex... it's not entirely flexible but then it will flex when needed.. meaning the power generation is better.

Ti10 doesnt flex at all! that's why it's control is better!

Ti-10 IMO is the stiffest racket I've ever used, the MP90 is not as stiff.
But I've to disagree with you about the control part |r|s! ;)

Don't spend your hard earned money on a racket you never tried. Borrow from someone who has one and just try playing with it first. Then you can decide which one YOU like best.

I bought the Ti-10 because at the time it was the latest and greatest, and I never liked it. Then I bought the MP-77, which I love. Then I bought the MP-90, again because of the hype, and I don't like it either!

    Could be..

AKFT, maybe the Ti-10 and MP-90 are too heavy for you. A lighter racquet is probably more suitable for your game. MP-77 is much lighter then the racquets mentioned.

Yes, I think you are right, not so much the absolute weight, but the balance and distribution of that weight. That's why I think one should try a racket before purchase.

    MP77

MP77 is extremely light. Anyone that wants a light racquet definitely try the MP77. Light to me might be heavy to you. :)

    Re: MP77

Light compared to what? Which version, the MP-77 2U or 3U? The MP-77 2U is not a light racquet. Perhaps you're talking about the 3U?

I have the 2U. I don't think weight-wise it is light, but I think a lot of the weight is on the handle, so that distribution-wise, it does not feel heavy.

    Forgot....

The MP77 I handled in my hand had no specs on the racquet. It was really light. Fake? I don't know. Most likely be a 3U. Maybe I use heavier racquets and also play squash so badminton racquets incomparison are definitely lighter then squash racquets.
