I grew up in Sibu, and was a player from Sacred Heart......the school that produced many badminton champions in the 90s....

    I miss Sibu very much

I went back to Sibu for a visit in April 2006 and was amazed to see what a large badminton hall they have now. I used to play in the tiny little hall with 3 courts with uneven floors. Haha... those were the days and this hall was the training ground of many past S'wak champions.

Anybody knows how is Sibu doing in producing top badminton players?

the large hall is not open to all students though due to an inconsiderate teacher. he is the caretaker of the courts, and only allows badminton club members (membership fee and shirt, not that cheap for average student). i hope this will change soon (although im not in sibu anymore).
the 3 court hall, yes i know that, with cement floor. they use that as a waiting/gathering hall for the afternoon session students now. its pretty rundown now, and HOT! poor ventilation i guess.

Nothing beats the original. Went to my mom's hometown in Kanowit (technically still in Sibu) and had some, with the red (char siew?) sauce - can't be replicated anywhere else on the planet.

The ones in KL are pretty bad imitations, except those made by the people from the original place.

On the topic of 'dried noodles' from the Eastern State, there are three main ones:

Kuching: Kolo mee - slightly wet, less oily, some veggies, 'lighter'
Sibu: Kampua - foochow or hokkien variety, straight noodles, distinctive red sauce (char siew?), 'thicker'
Miri: 'Dry mee' - somewhere between the two and not as good (I'm from the Oil Town, mind).

Yup, kampua and kompia are delicacies in Sibu.
But you can also have these in Miri because many Sibuans shifted to Miri.
Besides, Laksa in Miri is the best, it's very different from KL's.
Rojak in Miri also very tasty...:D

Hi, I am new to this forum. It is such a pleasant surprise to see this thread. Yap, kampua and gong pia, mmm............... Don't forget Roti Chanai lah.

Anyway, anybody knows where to buy yonex ns9000s or x at competitive price in Sibu? I live in the UK and am visiting home soon. Would like to get a pair if prices are good.

Your helps are much apprciated. Thanks.
