just got done watching fu/cai vs tony and chandra.... and during the matches the indo and american pair complained to the umpire about the chinese messing with the shuttle.... now this makes me suspiciousss as lin dan has been known to do this ... and also bao chunlaiii when he played peter in malaysia open... im not taking anything away from the chinse pairrr but the last serve wwasss awfull... hm fasttt. haha. it made me a little angry to see chandra just standing there for 6 seconds as he warned the umpire just before the serveee to do something... jsut an observation.. what do you guys think? r they cheaters or just a misconception?

There were quite a few time Tony/Canrdra wants the shuttle to be change but the umpire wont allow. Its a pity. The umpire must be a newbie.

the difference between this game and others is that Fu gave the birdie to the umpire to see. if he was tampering with the shuttle, id think he would change it instead of giving it to the umpire.

i was watching the match live in the stadium and i had a clear view on what happened.. chandra wanted the shuttle to be changed but the umpire refused.. and the winning point which the chinese pair got was crap to be honest.. i forgot who served, but it was definately served above his waist level, which is a service fault.. the indo pair was just unlucky.. :(

unfortunately almost all double pros serve above the waist and rarely been fouled. Only a few serve correctly, like tony G.

Fu match serve was a gamble knowing that candra was prolly unfocused and disturbed after been rejected for the shuttle change. Candra misjudge the serve, not related to shuttle being fast or slow.
Smart players exploit this situation (which i do sometime too). Gao ling did that too in match serve in 2005 sudirman cup XD against INA.

The game could go either way. Both teams has a fair share of errors, but Tony did slightly a few more during the crucial points, perhaps its the age factor.

In any sports, players play around the "grey area". Therefore, a call can effect the final point or so. However, a pro has to have the ability to stay focus, and overcome the "unfavorable calls". The result is not determined by the final call, but a game length of effort.

As much as I respect Tony, I have to say they did miss some good chances to win. Better luck next time, Tony. :)

the whole shuttle shall be below the server’s waist at the instant of being hit by the server’s racket.
The waist shall be considered to be an imaginary line round the body, level with the lowest part of
    the server’s bottom rib;

according to this, and the following screen caps, i think fu's serve is legal.
its not the best serve in the world, and it certainly does not qualify for the most sportsman like serve, but it was legal, none-the-less. reminds me of earlier in late 2006 when laybourn got hit with a similar serve for a game winner.

we're at a small angle too, making it look even higher than it is.

the bottom of his racquet frame is level with the "dark" part of his shorts that are visible beneath his shirt. we'll pretend thats a bit below his belly button. he strikes the shuttle somewhere in photos 4 and 5. it looks to be a touch above his imaginary belly button, and we all know our rib cage easily sits above our belly button by the same distance between the shorts the the belly button.

and finally, before anyone pours gasoline on me and torches me, i'll say i think the game could of definitely ended in a much better manner, considering how high a level the game was played at. definitely anti-climatic.

Hey players, tell the umpire openly next time "the shuttlecock su@@@ ! I have to change the speed" Shame on whoever sponsoring the shuttlecocks, your products are not built to tournament standard !

Don't know if TG and CW use their own pocket money to participate in these tournaments. If they don't win the title more often, they are likely to lose money. Anyone knows ?

Tony/Candra need more experience when they want a shuttle changed. If I really don't like a shuttle, or know the opponent has altered it (which has never happened yet), the moment the shuttle is on my side, I break it, show everyone and offer my own shuttle.

    How I do it, that's a trade secret. :p :D :D

Yup. This was quite clear to see. The umpire inspected the shuttle and did not change it.

At the end, Tony and Candra looked like they questioned the service judge about the serve and the service judge confirmed it was a legal serve.
