Yes, I never miss hit on the sides. So, I don't see the logic in having string there. It also saves me from having lots of shared grommet holes. As I don't have an awl and use only a needle and plier, I rather not have too many shared holes to push strings through. Also, saves some string too.

Naaaw, not the final say. I stopped testing because I just don't have time right now. I haven't been playing much either. But I must go today as Tony Gunawan will be there. I must go and try and get in a game with or against him. :p

    Good thread.

Been a long time since i have been on bc lol! Hi guys!

Anyway I have just ordered (3 days ago) 10 packs of pg65 in all colors.
Neons and power colors direct from distributor in Aust. Will arrive in the next few days. Can't wait to use it...........a grippy string......thank god...finally.

Question for those who have used it....: Neons and power colors are different strings??????? with different qualities????? is that for real????

I thought the colors were the same string but just different colors?

Why would a manufacturer make a string that is different in color and play different to the same string in a different color??? Weird!

I don't know the reason(s) why but it is what it is. I will post a comprehensive string review in a few days...

Just rang the Ashaway rep direct on his mobile........its sunday but he still answered......opps.

He said there is no difference in the colors of the powergut range and their playing qualities.......it is the same string just different colors??????

HHHmmmmm.............however...........for me bg65 bg66 last longer in white than it does in colors.....especially black bg66. Pigments used to color string can reduce durability and add/reduce weight.....fact. So this maybe the same thing.......I never string a yonex string in anything but white! even though i love black strings.

First off, are you referring to BG or PG string? Ashaway in the U.S. has no BG string.

I don't know about Australia but in the U.S., I spoke directly with Steve Crandall, Senior V.P. of Ashaway and he confirmed to me PG Neon and Power have different playing properties. It's very apparent if you play both strings.

What i was saying was yonex bg66 varies in durability as it does with color, some may disagree. Found black bg66 to be the worst. It breaks faster and easier than white.

I emailed steve crandall a few days ago to source a distributor here, but not the difference in color.

To be honest I am a little disapointed as my 10 packs are on their way to my house and nowhere on the site does it mention the string performance varies with the colors.........it should be called a different string altogether if there is such a noticable difference in playing with them:( . I asked for a variety of colors so i will wait till they arrive to see what i have got. Hope i have 5 in neon and 5 in power colors.

Agree, I have found with Yonex, the lighter the string, the better it plays and lasts. With Ashaway, I have not have not noticed this difference. I believe color does not effect Ashaway string performance nor durability. At least not notably.

Regarding PG, in the U.S., you can have four possibilities:

    1) Neon Green (which is actually fluorescent yellow)
    2) Neon Orange
    3) Power Green
    4) Power Orange

Neon Green and Orange play better but are less durable. Power Green and Orange are very durable. Playability not as good as Neon.

For me, MicroPower is the best Ashaway string. It's what I currently use. :)

Yeah it will be interesting as the new powergut 65 will be the first time i will have used an ashaway string for near 10 years!!!

10 years ago Ashaway made one and only one badminton string......can't remember what it was called, it was the original ashaway string, not made anymore:( It was like twine and frayed and became grippy/rough and would allow great control and slicing of the shuttle.

Rob Harmer(spelling) from ashaway said that this new PG65/PG66 was the closest thing to the old ashaway string-------> Yipppeee!

A string with a textured wrap.............sounds heavenly to me!:)

Prob arrive to me tomorow or the following day, and take my stringer a few days to get it strung and back to me. Will be restringing an old racket I have Epsilon-Boro Profile(MY Old Sword) which is the stiffest racket I have ever seen, It is an anti-torque design and is great for slicing with gut type strings-----it is still strung with the original ashaways, and will be given new life with the new string. sigh! I have waited a long time for these strings and so has my old sword, lol

isn't your old sword too old for your new strings? lol Micropower is a good string.. wonder why microleged is more expensive than MP... is it only the "playability?"

Maybe it is too old.........more so too weak in the head, It is a low tention head, many battle scars. 20lb max I think. As there is minimal flex in the shaft the strings will have to have some bounce. I will have to string it and find out, so......fingers crossed will just give it a go.

Expense between strings can be the material used and the process in making a string. Not necessarily how good a string performs.

    Yo Dink!:D

Has everyone forgoten about this thread? Or is it somewhere else?

    Still waiting:rolleyes:  .

Been using the pg65 powerOrange/Green for a few months now............really like how it plays and the durability is pretty good.....compared to bg65.

What i really like about it is the string does not move around much compared to yonex strings at the same tention.

    Interesting...

I haven't actually read this thread, but found a few things interesting...
Did you find this pg 65 more durable than yy bg65?

I've really only used yy strings, bg 66 snaps within the same playing session, I start using a new set, bg 80 would snap guaranteed within 2 - 3 playing sessions. My experience with bg-65 during my training days was that bg 65, was that it would last a good week or two, before i needed to restring, for whatever reason; whether it be string breakage, or eventual loss of tension & wear... and I am by no means a hack.
I used to string my racquets from 25 up to 29lbs

Hmm... I've found this to be more dependent on the stringer themselves...
The poorer stringers, always had strings sliding left right and centre, from what i remember in my younger days... the more experienced folks, seem to give a more consistent tension & string job across the entire string bed.
My yy strings never moved, once i learned how to string my own racquets properly.
Not sure what other people's experiences are...

In any event, its good to hear about other types of string, I've been looking into ashaway strings the past week and a bit, thinking about trying out the micropower (non XL) series...
I noticed SDBS in California has a couple of colours on clearance in the 200m coils, might be worth trying out... about half the price of the regular coils of micropower.
