I totally disagree with the ranking. How come fencing can be harder than badminton or swimming? How hard is it to stab someone?
It's from america, so most of the top 15 are sports predominant in america. Also their rating's aren't weighted, and I think the most important factor is the world population that plays the sport, because in the end, the aim in sports is to be better than other people. Personally I think football (known as soccer in US) is the most difficult sport.
well, fencing needs really fast reflexes and reaction time will much shorter than badminton. plus it'll be harder to see
This is one ridiculously stupid topic, every sport is just as difficult as the other. Stop tryna compare them cuz it's stupid. No, badminton aint harder than tennis, and fishing aint any easier than basketball.
I think ESPN should put chess as the hardest and toughest sport in the world. Chess player can lift up a horse, or even a castle!!!...Can other sports do that?
badmintons rank on the most difficult sports... http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/sportSkills why is badminton ranked so low?(30) i don't agree with this at all i've done kickboxing hockey basketball-none even come close to badminton.
Because the people who done the ranking has never experinced high-level competetive badminton.. They are most probably basing the view on the backyard "fun-in-the-sun" version /T
ESPN i guess basically rank the sports which is popular in the US,not in the world. So,whatever sports that we think is more appropriate to be put in the top list, maybe they wont agree with it.But since ESPN is well-known in worldwide nowadays, they should have consider making the ranks not just from the rank based in US,but worldwide.
This somehow almost seems even more ridiculous than the first time I saw it . Badminton gets rated second to lowest for "nerve" (1.25/10). It gets a 3.25 for strength. The lowest out of the "top 30". Obviously that goes with everyone's idea that badminton is easy and weak and anyone can do it. It also only gets a 5.63 for SPEED... while other sports such as Basketball, Football, Soccer, Baseball, TENNIS, etc. rank considerably higher... WTF!? Ah well they obviously have no idea what they're talking about (and it's obvious there's nothing "scientific" about it).
lol ya how does badminton get a low speed score isnt it the fastest game in the world? and the power and nerve you need... thats just rediculous. i've done kickboxing, hockey, fottball, basketball(for 4 yrs),soccer, snowboard, wakeboard you name it none even come close to the stamina and reaction time and skill/technique that badminton requires. not even close..
Badminton has always been a low profile sport. Although the sport is played in many countries, the sport still don't generate enough interest. Especially in Europe, America, Africa...
That's so true. Some of the greatest home run hitters were fatties...they just hit home runs so they don't have to run so much!!!
Believe me, I have been travelling to certain parts of australia and United States. Many people still think badminton is a backyard sport....
In a way, their loss is our gain. If baddy really takes off around the world, feather shuttles are gonna be skyrocketing through the roof. I would rather baddy gain popularity gradually.
Even while i'm not looking at badminton, the most demanding attribute of TENNIS is Hand-Eye Coordination!!(8.38). (amusingly higher than badminton too) In their own bs definition, HAND-EYE COORDINATION: The ability to react quickly to sensory perception. Example: A hitter reacting to a breaking pitch; a drag racer timing acceleration to the green light. Wow, and that's the most demanding attribute for Tennis??? We all know that's far from the truth. This shows that even ratings about western dominant sports are severely flawed. Apparently our recognized expert panel of experienced professionals thinks that the hardest part about racket sports is the contacting accuracy. In my personal opinion, contacting accuracy is something i i didn't have to worry about after my first hour of playing any racket sport -__-. i don't even mis-hit tennis/squash where i suck at. Laughable article. If they insist on doing a research on this, they should make it more detailed, including levels of play, and statistics which shows most player from 1 sport, being able to perform a customized TEST better than most players from another sport. This test should be shaped in a totally unbiased way, which is in fact, near-impossible to achieve!
Now who would agree with this Badminton ranked # 30 by ESPN (American) in their league of toughest sports Me thinks they do not play badminton enough http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/sportSkills
