Yeah, I've seen squid eat sharks on discovery channel documentaries too...

They're vicious predators... I'd rate the larger breeds among the most dangerous predators around... well out of the ones that have been discovered by scientists & oceanographers...

    Mmm... Calamari kekekek :D:D:D

    I wanted to add...

Steve O'Shea, touched on a very important topic at the end of that little snippet... the over fishing & also the method of fishing (deep sea trawling, or in this case sea floor trawling)...

Hopefully an amicable solution can be worked out, or otherwise, as mentioned by Steve, that giant squid & collosal squid will be extinct within 10 years... and we wont be able to learn anymore about the species.

    Mmmm yummy yummy!!!

    LOL :D

In their natural element they've been known to do some serious damage...
well ok, perhaps not the tiny breed you're eating there lol.
    But the larger variety.

Just too bad their locations are so remote, and our oceans so vast, so we cant learn as much about them

Sometimes larger marine life has been known to become prey of the giant & colossal squid.

Here's a nice pic of a "baby sized" giant squid rofl

    http://uncarved.org/blog/?p=708

It looks as if they are from another world :)
Infact there is a lot of deep sea life, that has yet to be uncovered...

    http://www.coml.org/

Is a link, for the Census of Marine Life, that has currently been running...
Most of the information and data is above and beyond us, but if you want to learn more about what's in our oceans, they have a very informative database, that you can look up just about everything that has to do with marine life... from new discoveries, to new and previously thought to be extinct species of marine life.

Although some of this data & findings will change, due to the warming of the oceans & seas globally... its rather important everyone do their part in helping to preserve what is still around us... ok enough preaching ... sorry.

Squid... yummy... yet somewhat scarey :D

oh... lol someone pm'd me, I neglected to mention, that the pic I linked of the giant squid was a reconstruction... a model if you will. :p

but the real thing in the water would probably stare at you in a similar manner saying "mmm... snack time" :D:D:D

They were using 'squid jigs' on a normal fishing rod. A squid jig is like a 'artificial lure' but has many barbless hooks on the back. yo-zuri is the brand i think. Did not have my cam with me that day. but i need to learn how to upload photos   I have a few pics of fish i catch.

Yeah, that looks like a, very big, giant squid. Those arms are very menacing.

Yeah, the big one is the giant squid with two very long arms.

I just wonder too how big those Humboldt squids can really get.
