depends on the championship, most players dont earn enough to make it there living, they need to have sponsership as part of the package, i know british players are funded by the lottery, Colin Haughton gets about £25,000 to help him and he gets to kep the prize money that he earns (which is not much) i talked to him at the commonwealth games (known him for many years) and he told me that most overseas tournaments cost him money as he does not cover his expenses and if not for funding he coulod not play. This is Englands no1 so think of what the others get? i think only the top 2 or 3 can make a living from winning alone

they give you a set amount here and you get to spend it anyway you want, living and travelling to tournaments take up all they give you so there is never anything left

Not enough for me to play fulltime. In fact, not enough for anyone living in the west.

    a living

i agree that this is not enough, maybe that is why china domiate as they can live on this easy, it is a shame really when you see fottball players earning vast sums and there skill is not at the level of badminton players and even on an off day they can rely on there team mates to get them through

the most i heart is LCW. he earn almost RM400k at this year before WC.
BAM said LCW can take all the money from the touranment he won. and becouse he ranking now is no.1 in MS, goverment give him another rm250k.
thats why he can earn so much.
so country they not allow the player take all the prices from the tourament, maybe just 60%...as i know!!!

2006 Yonex OCBC US Open, prize money pot was $30000, that’s to be split over 5 events. So not good.

Hmmm, it's a pitty about the prize money. Australia is the same, how do you tell a teenager to play Badminton when they can earn Hundreds of thousands of $$ playing Aussie Rules or Rugby Union. Look at Leyton Hewett, he's not even performing at his best and he's such a celeb. I heard TH does okay because of his new aliance with rich girlfriend. He gets treated like royalty!!
