my friend ask me wheter he can get a racket, specially yonex, that powerfull for powerless player like him. He is a control player, smash so so awful, always play double, his role in front of the net. Clear from back is terrible, so guys what raket suit him?
i already give him a try on my carbonex 20 tour sp, but fiuhhh... really off shot, specially from the back, no able to reach 3/4 full court, this racket rate as "excellent" by master panda, so maybe i should advise him to reduce string tension from 23 to 15 like CD did.
i think there are 3 things to consider here, and probably in this order: 1) string tension 2) racquet weight 3) shaft stiffness for a less powerful player, i would normally recommend a lower string tension (say 22lbs or so, this is quite subjective of course), a lighter racquet (say a 4U for yonex) and a more flexible shaft (say an Mp88 or Mp66).
i'd say focus more on learning good technique than get a good racquet. you should be able to clear baseline to baseline easily with any decent carbon graphite racquet.
string tension already about 22lbs, racket already light, flexible shaft, so that i told him, but he insist to buy a new one such: at-900, ns9000, What a waste of money..... BTW Thanks for all the reply
LOL<--there goes his wallet...add a thing to him<--if his ns9k,at900 BREAKS...would he be able to buy another one, that's the question.
his racket are astec (forget the type) and mp-24 yonex, string bg-85 initially 29lbs but overtime (already 2 years more) and still hang fine on the frame
that's a bit over the top for a beginner. geez, AT900's are for pro's. and 29lbs is wayyy too high.it should be around 22lbs. MP-24 is good. most MP racquets are good racquets right up to intermediate level.
What racket does your friend currently use? It would prolly be a good reference point for suggestions.
yes, there's probably also something wrong with his technique. i'd say his money would be better spent on coaching. i've seen a few girls 3 years my junior(12) who can smash as good as me.
Equipment can only improve his game in a very limited degree. He should work on his techniques, as if he can't even clear fro 3/4 court, he definitely has some issues in his strokes/footwork. A more advanced racket (usually more stiff) may very well make his game to be even worse.
