For this year's australian open, the winner received USD 1.281million and even first found losers (there are 64 of them!) got USD $19,215 each.

Compare this with Badminton where by far the largest prize money purse is for the year ending SS Finals where $500,000 is on offer but across 5 disciplines (about $100,000 each) and first round losers being guaranteed $2000, we're still a long way off from being the world's biggest racquet sport.

Not that I'm complaining about the SS Finals, it's definately a step forward but when we compare the prize money involved, there's a big gap there.
