    Hey guys,

I was wondering what do you do if someone breaks your racket?
If it was from a clash and I wasn't blocking his forehand or something like that, I'd expect a compensation of, let's say, 50%?
Or is it usually just a 'sorry'?

    Yours,
    Stinus

racquet clashes are part of the game, and i dont think asking for compensation is really acceptable if it was honestly a mistake that both of you swung at the same time. You have to be able to accept the fact that your racquet will get damaged if not broken in a game, if youre concerned about it just play singles or better yet, just dont play with the racquet :p:D

No compensation. You walk onto the court fully expecting that accidents may happen, and your brand new $200 racquet may not survive the game. Unless the clash was on purpose, no compensation should be payed.

If I play with friends who I know will be careful, I can use my more expensive rackets, but if I play with some beginner guy, I will just take out a cheaper racket(learned the hardway when my brand new 900P got hit twice the first time I used it)... But as my friend said, no point is worth $200+ so if it's questionable shot which both players might swing for, I will usually hold back....

I agree, no compensation. Its just unlucky. When I play with beginners, I just move around them and let them take the shot if they want to. For others (or in competitive games) if there is doubt I try to call it, but that won't stop all clashes. It happened to me a few months ago, my new & expensive racket didn't do too well. But at least you can get a new racket now!!

yah~ no such thing as 50%

if he's a noob, you should use a beater racquet

if he's as good as you, the game should have been a good one, in which case your racquet went down in battle where it belongs!

If my partner breaks my racket, I grab my partner's racket and break it over my head. Then, when they are in bewilderment, I give them back the racket and make this face...

    ...:p

    Just kidding!

Like the others' have said, compensation is hard to come by when it comes to racket clashes. Best to avoid them, especially when you are playing with an unknown player.

If it was an honest accident, I wouldn't ask for, or expect any monetary compensation. It's part of the game; play at your own risk. Just my two cents. ;)

Well I never meant that I would ask for a compensation, but if I was to break an expensive racket, I probably would propose it.

Although I like singles a lot more, we have limited accommodation so we're often forced to play doubles.

However, after reading all your posts, it seems that I'll be using my old MP 25 for doubles games with a partner I don't know yet.

I agree with Stijn about offering compensation. I would offer, but only if a clash was clearly my fault.

If it was a double game and my racket break in a clash, I wont ask for compensation, but if my partner's break I will propose.

But if a friend borrow my racket and break it, than I will ask for some funding for a new racket if they dont propose it themself.

In one of the games, one of our member broke the teeth of another member. That guy picked up his half 'incisors' and left the court; no black face, no grievance... with the guy who broke his teeth repeating his sorries... feeling remorseful, feeling like wanting to kill himself.

That guy managed to get the dentist to join back the teeth, and he was back to the court again. And yes, he continue to partner with anyone, including the guy who broke his teeth...

Another occasion was that when I smashed, the shuttlecock went directly onto the lips of my opponent, cracking his lips, ending up at the hospital. I felt as bad, also wanting to kill myself...

Yet another occasion, when we were attacking our opponents, my partner smashed, and I felt my fingers went dumb.... Not long later, I realized that three of my fingernails were badly hurt; with blood clotting under the nails (almost the entire nail). Wow! it was just 'bloody' painful. I was under great pain, but... sincerely, I bear no grudges at all, non at all.... I sit behind and observed the game until everyone is ready to leave the court...

Until today, all those who had accidents continued to participate in the game, every session without fail; unless they are really too sick to play.

One fine day, when we die, we will be lying on our bed. But... that will not stop me from sleeping on my bed.

    Thanks.
