For you guys in Toronto, what store do you believe does the best stringing? Personally, I've only gotten rackets strung at Winning Cycle and Sports and Max Sports. I've gotten about 2 done at Winning and about 6-8 done at Max Sports. I currently get them done at Max Sports and like it there. But I was wondering what your preferred stringer in Toronto is. Mine is Max Sports.

What players consider good stringing is different from each player I guess. If it feels good, than It's pretty good. Good stringing also has the proper patterns, right tigh-offs, etc. I use BG-80 at 28lbs

Your right about it being a personal preference, but at the same time you have to have experience with different stringers to know what that difference is... I will say that 90% of stringers are well under the tension they are trying for.. A mix of poorly calibrated machines, bad string techniques, no use of pre-stretch ,etc lead to the tension not being what it was set to be... With all that being said it is good that you found someone you are happy with..

I like Racquets Warehouse. They are a little store on Yonge just south of Finch.

Totally agree with u on that. My biased choice for me is that i prefer my own string jobs because i have my own machine and i'm in control and know the expectations and results of my stringing effort :D.

The Stringer (hobby or doing it for a living) + Techinque (weaving + choice of knots + pattern) + Machine (crank + electronic + drop weight) all play a factor to the quality and consistency of a string job. For example DinkAlot will always string 1 piece due to personal preference regardless of the racket type while i prefer to string based on the pattern.

as quoted earlier, you should be happy that you found a stringer that you are pleased with.

For those who live in Mississauga, there's a retired man and badminton player that lives in the condos near Square One. He does professional stringing. Very good!
His name is Sonny Wong. Phone number is 905.568.8288.
He speaks English and Cantonese. I was refered by some people from Badminton Birds.

I think the cheapest machine are from $200 and can go all to way up to few thousands, but if you are occasional stringer like me then probably something cheap with 4-6points crank machine will do.

I got mine from www.eagnas.com

And Yes, I agree that the best stringer is probably yourself. I always string my racket at 28lbs+ and I don't think many places will do that for me. :p

I just got my AT800OF strung from him with BG80 at 25lbs, snapped today in the first 5 mins of play, pretty sure its not because its too dry or too cold as I left it in room temperature for a while. :(

well if u can't resist that crisp sharp feeling of BG80 @ 25lb
then u should start geting used to them snapping with one tiny mishit
especially when u'r on one of those top cross"less" racket
soon u'll notice u keep breaking those 2 damn centre main a little above the sweet spot

yea, i'm sure u have played with or own one of these racquets, do you think its better to have extra strings on the top? man, one mishit and $10 is gone....but that isn't the biggest problem, I have to bring it from Kingston to Toronto to restring it ..

the problem is the top holes r single pass gormet, if u cramp an extra cross in those gormets.. i have a feeling that the gorment will just break easily
I end up switching to a thicker string instead

I believe the T5 gromment is also a double gromment, therefore, you can use it to get the extra cross. However, that will make the tie off gromment to have 3 strings, instead of 2.

Also, when you finish cross on T8s, you need to go to T5s 1st, then back to T7s, then tension the last 2 crosses together. Then, tie off at T5 main string for the knot.

I gave up going to badminton stores only to have inexperienced stringer string my racket without consistency. For example, sporting life or sports chek has kids gettting paid 7/hr to string rackets. often times, it's difference stringers which leads to inconsistency. There is a guy I've been stringing from. He's been stringing for over 10 years. Charges a very reasonable price. For BG 80, he charges $18. If you want, sent me a PM and I could provide you with his contact info.

Michael's stringing in Maxsports shop impressed me, after I tried there and Yo's. Of course, Yo's is good too.

...:p This is no longer true. I only string 2-Piece Top Down (2PTD) with my electronic constant pull (ECP) set-up.

For me, it's a significantly better.

On another note, how the heck did I find this post?

Oh yes, I was going to answer, "The best stringer in Toronto is PeteLSD even though he's in Vancouver." :D:p
