Who's playing? Let me answer you if I can. I believe Holvy is not playing because the rules of US Nationals is that you must have been in US at least for 1 year. I don't know if Holvy has been. But don't take my word for it. Our tournament program will be posted tommorow on BC and the draws on the 3rd. Please stay tuned! Howard and Bob are playing and actually many of the top players in the US! Tony told us he couldn't make it cos Yonex and other sponsors needed him in India. But he REALLY WANTED to come and gave us his best wishes as well as his support in our GGBC April Newsletter which is in full on another thread in BC if you want to take a look! Tony will be in a few issues cos he did a great interview for us by email! I was very very happy to see Tony in HKG last time and while he was coaching Eva and May, he was wearing our GGBC SWEATSHIRT! I almost fell out of my chair! As for the draws. This Tournament is sanctioned by USAB badminton and we are only following their rules. Born Ready, your suggestion is good and you should write a letter to USAB and make your suggestion to him. Our tournament Director, Chris Lawrence is THE most experienced Tournament director in all of US. Mike Yang hand picked him because Mike said that Chris directed the most well run, super promptly scheduled tournaments in all of US, and I can vouch for that cos the last time I played I WISHED he would delay my game, but the game was just so on TIME!! Much to my dismay! I just hope you all come out and watch this event being held in Bay Area for the first time in 21 years. It's an honour for us here in the Bay Area and really.. if you can please support it by coming to watch! OK, Hey Cheung is that you? We had a great game tonight! Hope to see you next Tuesday! I will push my support for you to join our CCC club in HKG! Regards, Sally
I saw in the website of Smash City that Holvy won the MS and MD... it was also a United Commercial Bank tournament held at GGBC last year. I'm just not sure if it's the same tournament .
Uhhhhh, no, Holvy could not play back then (if he was even here). Here are last year's winners, results from www.tournamentsoftware.com. Oh maaaaaaaann... ...i was going to reserve a limousine pickup from the airport, just for you Master Pete...oh well.. Anyway, we're still waiting for your big arrival, Master Pete, so make a plan to visit us down south!!..>>>>July, this year, for the U.S. Open???.. ..since this is probably going to be a "big" badminton event for the NorCal area, i would expect & anticipate no less than a wall to wall coverage and pics!!..Be waiting for the pics, kwun!!
i hope someone can help write the reports as my partner and i will be full time taking photos. we are planning to display our photos on site and have fast turnaround so competitors will be able to enjoy their match photos soon after their match concludes.
Don't forget to post the results... Please don't forget to post the draw as well as the results also. So far, in the past couple months, some tournaments were announced in Badminton Central for US West Coast, the tournament completed, but no results of the tournaments were announced. Like recently, Kason Classic USA, http://www.badmintoncentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=49433 , Bay Area Open Spring, http://www.badmintoncentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=51457 , and Bay Area Open Fall, http://www.badmintoncentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=48220 Thanks!!
I like the way kwun did it for the 2007 Team USA Trial. He took pictures of the board and posted them here. kwun, can you please do the same?
I still don't understand as to why the draw isn't made public right after the draw was done on Saturday? why it is so secretive?
Tournament Software Hello Born, I did pose your question about to our tournament Director, Chris Lawrence. He is aware of it, but he is not a fan of it, therefore he would not be adapting it. Maybe it's great for locating your game, but not so good for placing games. I cannot make fair judgment not understanding software, but in this cyber millineum, oftentimes we get so frustrated with techno gadgets, it's so much more intimate to go the human way. I know that Chris is the most experienced from his many many years of tournament Direction and he is also an OXFORD graduate! Again referring to my own minor experience, the morning cup having 1500 entries, is all done BY HUMAN HAND. My first 2 opponents were rather easy and the 3rd was tough as nails. I saw one 60 year old Ladies singles category where 2 HKG friends were playing against each other and one lady didn't even bother taking her thick sweater off cos the opponent was sooo weak, that I don't know why she would even enter the tourny. But that lady played her BEST game and did what she could, but her game was so very weak. Her opponent just kept handing her shots until she made mistakes which was in the 2nd shot or so each time. So the game was over in less than 10 minutes and they were both not sweating. Anyways, are you playing in the tournament Born? We will be posting the Draws today. I guess we will post as attachment here cos I don't think we can get the draws pasted right on the page here. Thanks for your patience and understanding! Sally
Draws Online! Sorry it's no secret, but you cannot IMAGINE, HOW MUCH WORK is involved in preparing this tournament, and we are on our last few days counting down. If we could only have shot a "making of" video, you would know. We have 2 clubs to run, a full time dedicated staff who hasn't had any sleep for weeks, ONE BOSS, Mike, who is directing everyone, and many other projects besides this one, and ME in Hong Kong right now, waiting for BOSS's instructions, to direct my team, into the middle of the night cos of the time difference, and there are just so many details of last minute preparations, which is a list well over 100 items to cover. Then we got new instructions from our tournament Director everyday, so placing the Draws online for all to see is only 1 item on our TO DO LIST . Our apologies. Hope you can be patient and understanding. The person who is going to upload the draws is in TORONTO, Canada, and she is doing it this very minute. Please enjoy them and hope you will show up to watch the tournament after all this ruckus! Thanks for all your patience! Sally
Sally, Thanks for working so hard for the tournament. Hats off to you and your staff. I know how difficult and time consuming it is to run tournaments. I don't mean to be complacent. However, with all due respect, I disagree with Chris's assessment; considering this is THE same software that the Super Series folks are using throughout the world, not just in one country, I submit to you that this is the best software there is to run tournaments. Just my 2 cents...
