If we don't try to make ourselves heard and keep feeling sorry for ourselves, badminton will never be televised
That's how things work with national networks. They only show sports which their own country excel in or has high chance of medalling in the event. Badminton is getting popular in Canada, but we still don't have anyone who can kick major ass on the world stage. I fear all these protest would fall on deaf's ears. We're lucky that CBC even showed the games at all. From Anna's performance, I doubt she would go far. The kid she played got almost 10 years on her and Anna's already having trouble closing the sets on her. Let's hope our guys go far enough into the games to impress the network.
do a search and post it in the right forum http://www.badmintoncentral.com/forums/search.php?searchid=1315769
Good to see your name on BC again. Haven't heard much from you lately (unless we've been frequenting different threads). Best chance of medaling... men's gymnastics?? They spent an eternity on it last night and no one qualified for the finals. I've never heard anyone calling Eva Lee a "kid"; I hope you use that term loosely. Anna just looks awkward, to a point it throws off the opponent. I wonder who taught her how to serve? However, like any good Canuck, she's got that never say die attitude that everyone here loves so much. Hopefully her outspokeness will draw some TV attention. Best chance to see our guys win is to televise them in the early rounds. Unfortunately, Andrew Debeka will face PSH, so maybe it's best not to show possible humiliation.
Canadian Olympic TV coverage doesn't work that way... In fact the TV coverage has been quite weird... Women's Soccer - North Korea vs Brazil and Women's Beach Volleyball - USA vs Japan... These are definitely instances where the Canadian network is spending time not even covering our athletes. I would rather have them show the Anna Rice vs Eva Lee game or heck or other events where Canadians are competing... at least she is Canadian. Instead CBC/TSN seem to be putting alot of content that has no Canadian content
What I think they are doing is trying to draw viewers in. Clearly they dont think people want to watch canadain athelets, but rather the best. Therefor, the brazil game, american beach volleyball etc.
found out something a while ago but forgot to share it xP if anyone in canada wants to watch the NBC badminton coverage they can use "Ultrasurf" to bypass the censor. originally created so chinese people could bypass the government censorship, it lets me watch nbc streaming as if i was living in the US. check it out: http://www.internetfreedom.org/UltraSurf
thx t3tsubo, and god bless those freedom fighters Testing tennis live now and seem to be working fine
can someone help me out a bit on this?.. so i open it. type Nbc Olympics then it gives me the website i go in videos but the web provider/postal code for Us still pops up? Am i Doing something wrong? thanks!
Hey madbad, I do more lurking than posting these days... I do use the term loosely. Timeless told me that she was a world junior two years back or so. Doesn't Anna Rice have a world ranking of 29? Yet she was almost beaten by Eva. I would think her experience and training would count for something. Yeah, agreed with one of the posters, CBC broadcast is kinda weird. Chances of badminton broadcasting on the main channel is slim to none. Highlight shots doesn't really count.
Anna had an easier time beating Jeannie CICOGNINI. A really surprising result. Watched psh vs Andrew D. match. Andrew played not too shabby. One reason i think badminton isn't shown on cdn. tv is that cbc doesn't have an reliable commentator that knows or follows badminton.
