well, i might be heading to calgary and/or edmonton during the summer for vacation. after vigourous searching through threads, i didn't find too many results on shops in alberta. so... i was just wondering if anyone could tell me of some badminton shops in alberta. be great if you could provide an address, phone number, or website. thanks. the only place i found through searching was the Winter Club, the Glencoe Club, and SweetSpot Canada's website. (http://www.calgarywinterclub.com/ & http://www.glencoe.org/, http://www.sweetspotcanada.com/)
The calgary winter club and glencoe club are both located in calgary as you might already know. There is a sweet spot store in Edmonton however I'm not sure of the location address. If you are planning to check out the pro shops in calgary, while you're in edmonton, you might want to check out the Royal Glenora pro shop..i know they carry quite a bit of badminton and other sporting equipment. I'm not sure about the prices at the calgary winter and glencoe clubs..but at Sweet spot in edmonton, the prices for rackets are insanely high..I believe prices at the pro shp in royal glen are a bit cheaper, but i could be wrong.
There's a shop named "What's your racket and ski." 1105a 14 St. SW Calgary, AB T3C 1C2 (403) 228- 6633 they carry high end rackets but extremely expensive.
Are they the only racquet shop in Calgary besides the club Pro shops? BTW, Sweet Spot in Edmonton carries top of the line racquets but only a few varieties. Last time I visited there, they only carry ISO head racquets. No CABs if you're looking for traditional oval. The shop is actually near U Of A along 109st. There's also United Cycle along Gateway Boulevard (old Calgary Trail Northbound), they carry some Yonex (lower line though), Black Knights and Victor racquets. You can't miss it on your left when you approach northbound.
Yeah, so does every other shops with connections to Yonex Canada. But there's always a markup. If you're keen on getting a specific racquet, might as well get it on the net. Otherwise, if you're just looking to browse the wares in the store... there's not much to offer in Edmonton besides the aforementioned.
I believe John Luu of Tangent Sports is situated in Edmonton, AB. You may want to PM him to ask him about equipment since I know he runs an online shop, but also sells equipment locally I'm sure.
there's racquet central in downtown calgary, (don't know the address, just check the phone book under sporting goods), they don't have any yonex stuff though, just forza and babolat and they string too
Racquet Central also has some really cool Black Knight racquets...although the owner HATES yonex and he disses them everytime i mention "yonex" to him
I went there today, he says him and the yonex people don't get along but a lot of people tend to diss yonex, they have good products, and we buy them, but they are just too big to care about us little guys out there
There are two sides to every story. Ask the owner of Raquet Central why he doesn't want Yonex in his store. Maybe he wants it and can't get it?!
Good credit, a storefront that has a raquet basis, ie: tennis, squash or other raquets on the shelf, and a willingness to do business in a honest manner. By honest manner I mean no back door selling at super low prices that effect the profit margins of other retailers adversely. Also we tend to look at how the retailer treats other competitors in general. Obviously it is difficult to sell Yonex to a retailer that stocks clones or counterfits or even one who tends to slag or diss, as has been mentioned, a competitors products. There are lot's of products out there and retailers to sell them. I for one spend my time promoting what I feel are the best products, Yonex, rather than talk about my competitors. Mud slinging does no good. Retailers are free to choose the products they want to promote for whatever reason. If Yonex is not his choice then he should sell the positive aspects of the products he chooses rather than cast stones at the ones he doesn't. This would be the way I would proceed if I were a retailer and wanted a companies products. If I didn't want them then I wouldn't talk about them.
Hi Eggroll, Are you the yonex representative for Calgary alone or the whole of Alberta? The proprietor of Sweet Spot told me the last time I visited him that a Yonex rep was looking for opportunities to demo his products in various clubs, I was just wondering if the person in question was you
... Hm, is it just me? or is there a lot of Canadians that pass thru AB looking for racquet shops? And if someone hasn't mentioned already, a member of this forum, John Luu seems to have gone into selling badminton products in Edmonton, but i have no idea how to contact him as he does not sell from an actual store.
How to get in touch with John Luu/Tangent Sports The reason why is because the site isn't really up yet. We've been overhauling it, and then there's this little problem with Canada Post that we have to clear up...(that's been nagging us for 8 weeks now.....). I'm pretty much a online retail store, but from the response I'm getting, I guess people would like to deal with me directly, which is fine as well. You can always PM on the forum or Email@: John@Tangentsports.com If you're in Edmonton, I play at the U of A Club on Fridays, or you can arrange a meeting by emailing me. I also play at NAIT after the Chinese Club and Mark Lee's training sessions. The session after the Chinese Club is invite only for the NAIT Ooks team, so I can't really invite you to play or else I'd probably get the boot. What I'm trying to say is, I can meet you before then, if you're interested in meeting up. As for what I'm selling, please PM me for a list. Anyways. Please ask me about anything and everything you'd like to ask. I have plent of time. Hope to see you around.
Re: How to get in touch with John Luu/Tangent Sports I have a couple of friends that play at Mark Lee's club. I know you said that you can't invite people to play there but apparently there was one occasion when my two friends played after mark's session? I udnno, that's just what they told me.
Re: Re: How to get in touch with John Luu/Tangent Sports Yeah. Shannon (assistant coach at NAIT) sometimes doesn't really care if the courts are empty. And sorry, I should have mentioned this in my previous post. The only brands that I currently carry are: Winex, SOTX, Pointfore and Karakal. Only thing Yonex we have are birdies and soon, string. The reason why I bring this up is because people have only been asking me about Yonex stuff. Sorry to let you down guys. Too expensive and I've lost my faith in Yonex after I paid $320 for a brand new pair of MP100 and they died on me. No clashes, no mishits and both times at the very top of the racquet. But that's another bitter story for another time =)
